dechlor vs. time?**

Hello to all
i was just wondering if u left a bowl of water out overnight does it neutralize the chlorine? someone told me it did then another person said no it takes about a week. Im confused cause im kinda broke and have no money for the dechlor drops. Is it safe to neutralize the chlorine by leaving it out and if yes how long does it take to neutralize the chlorine?

That used to work but I'm not sure they don't put something stronger than Chlorine in the water..

Do you have snow? Do you have rain water coming down? You can melt snow or ice from outside to get water that won't have chlorine. You can also catch rain water provided it hasn't run off the roof. The stuff in roofing will be worse than chlorine and it leaches into the water...

The water from rain and snow is better than any dechlorinator you can buy...

Leaving the water sit out for any amount of time will not evaporate the chloramines from the water. Chloramines are different from chlorine. Unless you can find out from your city if its in your water supply, don't take any chances. A bottle of dechlor at Wal Mart is under 5 dollars and will last you for ever. Mine is one drop for a gallon of water.

Rainwater or snow is great too!

thanks to all for your help
good job we had a massive snow fall last night. cause im out of money for dechlor and i really dont want to take any chances. I feel pretty bad if id have hurt my crabs due to wrong info. ive been using the time method for while now and the crabs are fine...but ill think ill gather some snow in some buckets and use that till i get paid.

Just the snow on the top, no dirt please and of course, hermit crabs wouldn't like yellow snow....lol.

Just kidding. I don't know why I thought of the snow except that we've been dealing with alot of rain and you're much further north than we are...Snow would be good. Just melt it and warm it up to room temps and they'll have no chlorine at all! Put it in a pitcher to save it...They'll be all set till your next paycheck for sure!
