I have a question. I want to make my own but I have no idea what an airstone is?
http://www.petdiscounters.com/customer/ ... t=0&page=1
So basically all I need to do is attach a tube to an airpump, put the other end in the water attached to an airstone and then get another tube and do not put it into the water.. in the air above the water and the other end of the second tube into the crab tank. Am I correct?
Also.. this is an air pump, right?

THANKS!

This is such an awesome idea you guys!! Vicki pointed it out to me yesterday when I was telling her some stuff I was thinking of buying. I haven't been able to go shopping for my crabs in months, I'm really excited! I've got my list of stuff I need to make myself one of these.
Brilliant! I don't know how I overlooked all of these!

I have E's That like to climb the Air Hose...The Small gap that will be left when the Hose is going into the tat is small...I have no problem leaving my tat open with that small gap...it should be fine...unless U have stolen *Kathy*'s Nicro Ants from her.

Oh no, they're not nearly that tiny! Even my smallest crab ever (succumbed to PPS soon after we got it) was nowhere near that tiny. I've never had a micro (and I don't think I could handle it - my smalls are hard enough to keep track of!)OIF_VET wrote:I have E's That like to climb the Air Hose...The Small gap that will be left when the Hose is going into the tat is small...I have no problem leaving my tat open with that small gap...it should be fine...unless U have stolen *Kathy*'s Nicro Ants from her.
I will probably make this then. I have been worried about keeping the humidity up in the winter (air here is dry in the summer, in the winter it's awful! and since we'll have to have lights, we're going to need some humidity!)

I just found a 110-120 V airpump with tubes and an even an airstone attached, buried in the garage. (Atleast I think it's an airstone attached, it looks just like the ones at pet discounters but white and thinner.)
It apparantly came in the same kit as the hexagonal 2 gallon tank I have as my backup iso, but I didn't honestly pay attention to the rest of the stuff before.
So I just need another tube and some sort of jar/bottle and I'll be all set it seems LOL.
Thanks again for posting bundy!

home-made humidifier
Ok, I saw directions for one of these things some where else. I recall seeing something about having to refill the water often. Out of curiosity, would using a gallong jug work as well, and need to be refilled less often?
Just a thought. Have not made one yet, but wanting to. I do not have too much problem with humidity up top, but my substrate over my UTH gets really dry, really fast. Then from using salt water to keep it moist, I get dried up clumps of salt on the bottom of the tank under the EE. I wonder if the added humidity from one of these would assist with my substrate problem.
I have a bubbler bowl on the other side of the tank and my sand is always moist, not a problem there.

With mine, I have found that it drips water into the tat. I tried to cap the end of the tube and put holes all down the tube so it would humidify the whole tank, not just where the tube goes in, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I will go back to just the dripping tube.
As for the amount of water, I have a medium sized Gatorade bottle, and don't have to refill it very often. Maybe that has something to do with the size of the pump.

Finally got correct. I had to change to a gallon jug of spring water half full. 1 large bubble stone from the bubbler pool and one small air stone. I have 2 tubes not touching the water going from the jug to opposite ends of the tank.
I used hot glue to make sure all the holes in the lid of the jug are sealed around the tubing.
I can tell its working now I feel the airflow from the tubes and the humidity is going up in the tank.
For those that look (Yeah I know, I know, I need to clean off the shelf) LOL
