Traveling with crabs...or not?

Post by cranlsn » Thu Apr 27, 2006 1:14 pm

We're going to Kentucky for a week in early July. It's unlikely that we'd be able to find a caretaker for the whole week.

We will be staying with relatives (in our own room) so bringing them won't be a logistic problem....but will it needlessly stress them out?

We've got plenty of room for their supplies, and it's all highway driving down so it's not a lot of start/stop or turns.

The plus side is we'd get to "show them off" to our extended family, the downside would be any possible stress on them.

We've got until July to figure this out. Alternatively, I could probably transport the tank to my parents house (but I worry about my nephews across the street).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you take them in a large KK or 10 gallon with a basic setup I wouldn't think it would completely freak them out. As long as you keep the humidity high and keep them warm I don't think it'll be a problem. :)

Hey i have done it we drove from new hampshire to minnesota with crabs in the back seat and he lived for 2 more years before he passed from a bad molt. So i would say a nice setup for them in the back seat and they should be fine!!!

Well, if you decide you really don't want to stress them out, I know there are members here around the Wisconsin area, including me, that would probably be more than willing to babysit for a week. Anyway, good luck with the trip to Kentucky!

If you don't find anyone to take care of them, you can always keep a bubbly pool going andput a lot of food and water sources in with them!

I think the food thingies might have bad ingredients in them.
