1 or 2 UTHs?
Hello,
I just had a quick question about UTHs.
We usualy keep the temp in our house about 70 Degrees F, and i have a 10 Gallon Glass Tank, should i get 1 UTH? or 2 UTHs?
If i get 2, i was going to put one on the side, and one on the bottom.
What would you advise?

UTH are sold based upon the size of the tank you are trying to heat. the size you will need is one that fits a 10-20 gallon tank, so I think that one will be enough, especially since its summer. I have my UTH on the right side because my tank sits on a wooden window.

In the colder weather I use 2 on my 10 gallon. One was NOT enough. I have one bottom mounted and one side mounted. They are on oposite sides of the tank. I find with a good thick layer of sand the one on the bottom is not nearly enough to heat the air in the tank and the one on the side is practically useless for heating the sand! Together though, they do the trick. Now that it's warm out I run just the one under the tank. With your house temp at 70 (LUCKY YOU) you may need to run 2 all the time. As a side note - personally I DO NOT believe that one UTH side mounted is enough, the substrate is cold especially on the side oposite the heater. JMO, hope it helps.

I have a 10 gallon tank with a UTH on the bottom and the moonglow light on top. The UTH keep the temp and humidity good...If I need an extra burst of heat I flip on the moonglow light. BUT you have to watch your humidity because the above moonglow will start to dry out the air and your humidity will lower. So far this method has worked for me. Hope this helps!

In hindsight I'd probably go with the UTH under the tank and a light of some sort. So that may be the route you should take-?
One thing also to keep in mind... the deeper the substrate over the UTH the less heat ya get in the 'tat. My substrate is pretty deep in my tank (3 inches) but I try to keep it about 2 inches over the heater.

Ok, Thanks.
If i do go with the light, which of these two light bulbs do you recomend?
This one: http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.ph ... cts_id=172
Or this one: http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=44
Also, what Wattage bulb should i get? 40 Watt? 60 Watt? Etc.? I am using a 10 Gallon Tank, and the temp in my house is always at 70.

I'm not currently using my UTH (which is on the bottom of my tank), but I do use a regular - until I can buy an infra-red bulb - 40 watt light bulb. And even that I have turned off, because it's so fricking hot right now over here it's just not funny. The temperature in the tank is 81F without any heat source!
For a 10 gallon, I would say maximum 40 watt (and even that may be too much), especially if you also buy an UTH (which I would recommend, as you will most likely need it in the winter).
Hope I was helpful. Good luck and tell us how it works out!
