Bob has a HUGE molt sac, poor guy! :(

Post by starmaiden » Tue Jul 11, 2006 3:14 pm

Not that anything can really be done for him I think, I just wanted to share: One of my new crabs, Bob has this HUGE molt sac! I was sizing him for a shell last night, and it was like Ugh...HELLO!!! Its Big, its Black and it looks like it's going to Burst! Bruce had a molt sac too, but nothing like this! No wonder Bob doesn't wanna change shells! I'd be worried about leaving the shell I'm in too with that big thing hanging off the side of me!

I added about 2 inches more forest bedding last night and mixed it in with the sand/forest bedding that was already there to try and make a comfortable place for Bob to dig down. I'm hoping the poor guy buries down and molts soon. He's missing a leg too, yet doesn't have a gel limb that I could see, but he was squirming a lot so that I couldn't really get a good look.

So far, the only crab that's dug down is Claw. Good for Claw, but I'm worried about my other guys, especially Bob. :( What else can I do to try and encourage my new guys to go ahead and dig down to de-stress, and molt if they need to? :?

Other than making sure conditions are right and not putting them in ISO (a move with even slight variations from the main tat could halt a molt while he re-adjusts), I'm not sure there's anything else you can do. I hope he digs down for you soon.

Bob's already in a 10 gallon ISO with Claw and Tom since I just got him Sunday. I was planning on leaving him there with one other crab until He digs down to molt so I don't stress him out any further! :?

Lacey101, Here's a link to a picture of a molt sack, but Bobs was twice this size. It was actually hanging out of his shell when he stretched all the way out! Owie!
