Plum has a kind of interesting story. I went home the weekend before and saw this wonderful crab in a Petsmart, but couldnt take it home because I didnt have any supplies with me to keep it comfortable for two days before I returned back to my dorm for summer school. It was really hard, I was so close to getting it. When I was home again the previous week, I wasn't able to go back and get it but I went crab shopping anyway at another Petsmart. I started out in one pet store and then walked down to the Petsmart after only seeing hermies in painted shells at the first one. I'd underestimated how many street's I'd have to cross to get there, one was like a five lane highway. If my mom knew I'd walked to go get a crab she'd probably shake her head at me and lecture me about crossing streets (cuz you know, twenty year old college students NEVER cross highways

). I got th the petsmart and looked at all of them for at least 20 minutes or so. Finally I chose the one who the store clerk had said was the most active, but also really shy. When I picked him up I just started calling him "Plum" until I could think of a better name for it's personality, it did have a nice plum colored PP. So I bought plum and went back over the highway crossing streets again, this time with Plum in tow probably wondering what she was going to.
I got her to the classroom and watched her explore. She's the most active of the crabs. She doesnt mind being handled, and is getting less and less shy every day. I even let my campers "hold" her in their hands, and she did fine. She just walked along and explored about 10 palms and didn't hide once. I found out she was a girl this past weekend when she leaned out far enough. She's definitely worth the hot trip across highways and at the very end of the shopping center where the Petsmart was. The first night I got her, I came back in the morning and she'd changed shells- the first of any of my crabs to do so! I guess she likes to accessorize. She' always checking out everything, and I can't wait to finish my "climbing tee pee hut" pretty much for her and also Femi, who both love to climb. Ok enough gushing, here are pics:
Still fuzzy I know, but I'm getting better at it don't you think?
