Food preferences of Es
I have a question about feeding my new Es. Are there any particular foods they are especially fond of or really need? I’m asking because I put popcorn in their tank last night and they didn’t touch it. My ruggies and PPs go absolutely crazy for popcorn, so I’m thinking that perhaps Es have different tastes?
my small E turd will eat ANYTHING. it really does a crabby mommy's heart good to see a crab chowing down every day.
since having the doubleknit crab (teenie E) in iso the past two weeks I can definatly see his likes and dislikes as far as foods go: he enjoyed the warm, fresh coconut topped with fresh coconut milk, and his second favorite was narnar's veggie millet heat-up (big hit with everyone, actually).

Thanks for the food suggestions so far everybody! Keep 'em coming! I already feed fresh coconut, but have yet to try that with these guys. I tried fresh banana with some spirulina and that went over well, so tonight I'll try the coconut. I've also got some fresh corn on the cob in the fridge. I read somewhere that they really like the cornsilk and the husk in addition to the corn itself.
Any ideas for protien or does the usual stuff that works for ruggies and PPs work for these guys also?

I don't think any crab could refuse the power of the Emerald Entree! I think Emerald Entree has a lot to do with my ruggies getting darker and darker with each molt. I feed it to them about 2 times a week!beckers_86 wrote:One of my e's totally went crazy for the Emerald Entree last night. I don't think I've ever seen that crab make such a rush to the food dish!
I want to feed it more often, but it's so expensive! (In my opinion anyway) I try to feed it every other week or so. I really want to find some plain old seaweed! I can't seem to find any.
None of my E's seem to get quite as excited about food as my PP's. One of my ruggies really likes to eat, but I think its because I just got him.

Mine has lasted me a loooong time! I usually cut the cubes into halves or even fourths so not to waste any! 1 6 dollar package has lasted me from April until just last month.
If you look in the fish food section, not the frozen but the dried, there might be a product called 'seaweed salad' by the same company that makes the Emerald Entree. It's just dried marine algae pressed into sheets like nori. My crabs like it, but not nearly as much as the Emerald Entree. You might even be able to find some actual unsalted nori if there are any oriental markets in your area. I tried nori, which is just seaweed, but my crabs didn't care for it. I think I spoiled them with the Emerald Entree.

I cut them in half, and then put one half in each of my tanks. We really don’t have much diversification where I live. There isn’t a lot of stuff. The town I live in doesn’t even have a grocery store! Anyway, you gave me the idea to ask my supervisor to pick me up some seaweed while she is in NYC next. She usually picks a lot of stuff up from Chinatown when she’s there, but she said she couldn’t really know if the sea weed was salted or anything about it… so blah!
Maybe I’ll try the seaweed salad stuff next time. I saw an ad for that in the tropical fish magazine I got free with my 40b and thought about it, but just went with the Emerald Entrée… (I have to drive an hour from my house to get to a proper pet store… so that might be a while too!)

I don't think it smells. It smells wonderful compared to a lot of the shrimp / krill type stuff I give them!annopia wrote:does the emereld entree smell? i've been thinking about getting some for my crew.
I find seaweed at my local whole foods in the asian section...I think you are more likely to find it at stores like that.

I've never heard of this emerald entre stuff... I take it you can get it at Petco in the frozen food section? If your guys are going nuts for it I want to try it too.
I only have a few crabs so I'll take your advice and cut it in 4's.
