Are these worms?

Post by Guest » Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:32 pm

Hello all, I'm new here. Up until now, I thought I had this little guy all figured out. Today I found these things all over the cage, about 30 - 50 of them & they weren't there last night. So this all happened within a 24 hour period. These things are white to grey. The grey ones look moist. The white ones fall apart. The are about a half inch long. They are too thin to be maggots (I hope anyway). They don't seem to have been alive. Could they be worms? Is this crabbie poop? Check out the picture & tell me what you think. By the way, crabbie seems fine.

Thanks,

I've had these before, could be fruit fly larvae. Just do a deep clean and they'll all be gone. :)

Also looking at your pictures, I see you could make a few improvements for you crabs. Check out the standard care sheet here for some ideas http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/pa ... abCare.doc

Thanks for the reply.
He's ok? This is one crab, molted over in August I think. He's getting pretty big, but I NEVER saw that in the cage before. & I cleaned the cage last night, I gave him water this morning & didn't notice the droppings, so this is pretty recent. And there is alot! Do you think there's another molt on the way? (We refer to our crab as Mr. Nemo, because it's my daughter's crab. When we got it it's shell had a picture of Nemo the fish, so she calls it Mr Nemo. Her other crab, Mrs. Crabs, taken from too much SpongeBob, died last year). Mr. Nemo is at least 2 years old.

Alot of times they will hold the poop in their shell for awhile. Maybe he just happened to clean out his shell last night. It isn't anything to worry about.
