I like the idea of the flatbread being in shapes. It was pretty ugly to me (not that the crabs care), but if it looked like little oatmeal cookies I think they'd sell better/photograph better too.

yea lol I agree Jedi. These are shaped like flowers, hearts, and animals...and a couple other shapes. I like the way they look now....havent been able to find small cutters until a couple weekends ago at Michaels!

I just ordered some coconut oil and bugs and nuts for my babies,.....cant wait to try it out! looked very ...yummy....this is my first order i hope mine go crazy for it as well!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_oil says "Palm oil itself is reddish because it contains a high amount of betacarotene... Boiling it a few minutes destroys the carotenoids and the oil becomes white."

I think I'm going to keep feeding mine cold oil for the carotenoids, since microwaving probably has the same effect as boiling. Glad the stuff I got was extra virgin or it might already have lost some of this coloring agent.

It wont boil it in the microwave if you heat it for short amounts of time, all it does it heat it up to the "cooking" level. Since its a cooking oil much like coconut oil I dont think gently heating it will destroy its color properties. Its kind of like when you infuse OliveOil, its gently heated but never to a boil or you will burn it and it will lose all its nutrients.

When I pour it in to the bottles I gently heat it in the oven but its never brought to a boil...takes about 10 minutes for it to liquify. (Dont stick those plastic bottles in the oven tho...im sure they will melt

)

I guess if we heat it and it turns white we'll know we heated it too long. LOL

I can't wait! I was reading that betacarotene is what gives Straws and Rugs their red color. I don't have straws but I do have 3 rugs.

a good way to heat oil up with out losing properties is to boil some water in the microwave and then submerge the bottle into the water for a few minutes at a time...that gently warms oil with out losing any properties. and you will get a more even warm.

i had to do that when i worked in a pharmacy and heating the oil directly would make it change its vehicle property. some smooth oils would become gummy.

thanks narnar...got the food today and thank you for the treat for thomas and harold. so far they have not touched anything other than peanut butter. i hope tonight they will eat the bugs n nuts or something...

i do have a question....the moisture and humidity made the bugs/nuts stuff a little moist...is that ok?

Youre very welcome! I hope they sample some too. Sometimes it takes three or so feedings for them to find that its food and that its ok to eat it.

The B&N should be fine, it is a little moist anyways with the added coconut oil. So with the heat of the tank Im sure it has started to liquify a bit, which is just fine, it might release more aroma to draw them in

well i had them covered with a towel today to give them some sheild since i had to have the air cranked up....and i peeked in ...and to my surprise THOMAS was chowing down....thomas (named after thomas the tank engine by my 5 yr old) is the shy one who tries to pinch and always hides from me ....anyhow....he stayed right there chowing down.....i had seen harold the more social one that WANTS to be held tasting it earlier...so i think in the morning it will be mostly eaten...they ahve only wanted peanut butter since i got them 3 weeks ago. and it has to be on bread for some strange reason....i put a touch of coco oil on a flat bread and stuck it in there and then put some b/n right next to it....i will keep you updated and i may just start getting your food to supplement. any suggestions on stuff they wont be able to resist?
