rheostat...or something like that?

Post by rednerite » Tue Jul 10, 2007 2:13 pm

okay..i forget what it's called...but i remember seeing/reading somewhere about something that controls the temperature of your tat when you're not there, like you can connect your uth, lamp, etc. to it, and it will shut them off automatically and turn them on to maintain the heat (perhaps humidity as well) when needed if you're not home? does anyone know what i'm talking about, and where i can find such a product for a reasonable price? thanks in advance :D

Not sure if the price is good since I've never price shopped for them.

I was looking at getting that same thing but I was wondering how well it actually worked. To me it's worth the 20 bucks if it keeps the temps stable and where they need to be but I don't want to spend the money on that when I could spend it on something else if it doesn't work.

What you need is a thermostat. I have this one and it works perfectly. I looked at rheostats too, but all they do is act like a dimmer switch for your heater. They don't turn it on and off.

So if you used a rheostat for lamps it would just dim the bulb? That doesn't sound that bad if that is the case.

A thermostat is the one that will shut off the heater at a specific temp. Rheostats are only dimmers. Here's the link to the thermostat: http://www.thecrabbagepatch.com/AC060-p ... E-KITS.htm
