Bright Red Crab Poo

Post by Guest » Mon Oct 01, 2007 1:45 pm

My crabs seem to be enjoying their zoo med calcium cruncher. It is colored bright red, which is turning their poo that color too. Is this anything to be concerned about?

I don't think color of poop is anything to be worried - carrots give their poop more of an orange color.

(let's wait for the expert on poop HERMEZ to chime in though ;) )
Crabbing since 7/4/04 - 10 years!

When I gave mine Carrot baby food, they pooped orange!
They are happy and healthy, tho. I guess it's kinda like babies?

Ha...i guess it is like my dogs...they are inside maltese and they use a potty pad instead of going outside. This enables me to "notice" poop more...well...both of mine have gotten hold of crayons before and had multi-colored poo....imagine my surprise the first time! It was funny after I realized what it was...but FREAKED me out at first! :D

Thats so funny! Yep.... and it really is nothing to worry about. It varies based on whatever you feed them. As long as its not bad artificial coloring it should be ok!

Awhile back, they used to make hermit crab furniture and toys out of brightly colored plastic. Soft, brightly colored plastic. In pastels, oranges, reds, greens, etc. By an amazing coincidence, plastic is apparently inert in an invertebrate's digestive tract. I'll leave things to your imagination...

I have a turtle dock for a way for my guys to get to a 2nd level and it has green pads on it so the animals can grip it better.

Well one of my guys lifted a corner up and munched on that for a few days since I guess he wanted to try something new and I started to notice some green poo in spots....

I still have no poop... Maybe that's what is wrong with my crabbies... their lil systems are backed up. [smilie=whistle.gif] [smilie=dunno.gif]

The only time I see poo (and I've only seen it once in a while) is when my big guys go in either the food dish, the shells, or on the decor/walls. I never see it lying around in the substrate and I rarely see it period.

I guess I'd rather not see doodles everywhere. I did when I had mice and it was awful. I just want to make sure they are eating ... and eating well.

One of my large straws loves to poo in the food dish. My other crabbies like to poo on the driftwood or in one of the large shells. I've yet to find multicolored poo though, but it is often green, red or orange depending on what I've fed them lately.
