First strawberry molt!

Post by Guest » Tue Jan 08, 2008 11:43 am

I'm so excited; my first straw molt was a success!!! He came up yesterday afternoon.

My DD chose him at the store b/c he was SOOO red. I'm so glad to see that he only got brighter w/ his molt. My DD named him Sizzle b/c he's red hot. :D
(I did NOTHING to this pic except crop it. He is really that red.)

Here's a before pic to see how ashy he was.

Congratulations! I've only had one pull off successful molts for me, well successful as in they're still alive today. Glad to see your luck is better.

Beautiful colouring on your Straw, Monica..........What have you been feeding him?
Just curious because my Straw eats alot of beta carotene containing foods, but he is still losing colour with each molt. :(

He is extremely shy and is buried most of the time, so I don't really know what he eats. I feed all my crabs the same stuff: NarNars Staple and Bugs n Nuts along w/ the fresh/freeze-dried stuff like krill, thawed shrimp, canned bone-in salmon, chicken, carrots, apples, berries, raisins, greens, and anything else organic that I know is safe for them.

Also, may I also ask what type of substrate is being used?

Also, what type of salt/seawater brand?

Any supplements such as cuttlebone?

Just wondering... :) thx!

Oh yes, Annopia was kind enough to send me some of Narnar's kibbles. :)
Out of the many different kibbles that Annopia sent to me, I mainly focus on feeding "colourful crabby" "bugs and nuts" and "post molt kibble" as well as tinned crickets(have an aversion to killing anything), papaya, carrot shreds, fresh cherries, apricots, plums, pumpkin guts and whole large fresh shrimp(including exo).
Substrate is sand, cuttlebone available at all times and Red Sea marine grade salt used.
