Confused by his Reflection

Post by Guest » Fri Feb 29, 2008 12:00 am

So my new little PP is currently staring at the back of the tank, looking at his own reflection. You see, my tank has a mirror as its back...it's kind of cool when there are fish in there, but it's mostly funny with hermies in there.

Has anyone done studies on mirrors and how hermit crabs react to them? Am I going to potentially stress my crabs out with their own reflections?

My crabs love to look at themselves in the mirror. All of them, as soon as they moved in, spent time primping in the mirror before digging down. It kind of reminds me of babies when they get really excited about thier reflections. Silly crabs!

How cute - now I want a small mirror to show the crabbies how gorgeous they are!

That's so cute! :) I always put some beachy or brown background behind so they don't have to look at the hideous purple wall.

My crabs mostly stare at the reflection for awhile and bob their antennae. I haven't had anyone try to attack the wall yet because of this, but I can't imagine that being too far off... :hlol:

My camera's still out of commission...I won't be getting new batteries for awhile. Plus, my camera does best at taking pictures that look like blurry specks ten miles away.

So?? All that is a good excuse for a new camera. :hlol: Crabs are so useful at making us get some things that aren't even crab-related.

My tank is in front of a full-length mirror, which covers about 2/3rds of the tank width. It sure keeps them entertained... but it can scare them when I approach and there are 2 of me...

:hlol: Sounds funny. I should try that sometime... I have an old mirror somewhere in the house. Next deep clean, i might just try that out, and see what the crabs do.

I love this idea!
I think I will pick up one of those little plastic framed mirrors for parakeets and hang it in the tank -
Then we will see who is the fairest of all
