Freeze dried flies?

Post by ShelbyNS » Fri Jul 18, 2008 12:29 pm

I have some freeze dried flys from a few years ago that I fed to an anole I used to have (my cat caught and paralyzed its back legs). Well I found the flys under our kitchen sink (where the chemicals are). It says its good for hermit crabs and reptiles. Is it still ok to feed to them. Would they actually eat it. Is 4 year old flies bad?

I think the crabs would probably eat them. You could always give it a try. :dunno:

If there is not an expiration date on the bottle, and you've stored it appropriately (doesn't say "Refrigerate after Opening" like my crab food says and I didn't see it until a week later), you should be fine.

I wouldn't feed them to the crabs :puke: they might be sick

Crabs are known to eat insects in the wild (especially dead ones), so in rebuttal to the comment above, I think they will be fine, especially since they are freeze-dried and marketed for eating. This means they shouldn't carry any disease. :)

The flies are probably quite nutritional, too.
