I almost never see mine.....I have to wonder if they are still alive. We plop in new ones whenever we find them in the yard, and they vanish within 15 seconds.

I see mine al lot, in the food dish, climbing the cork wall or just walking around. But I have a huge colony by now, at first I never saw them.

I gathered some rollie pollies today! I can't believe it. I found probably twenty worms, fifty crickets, and only four rollie pollies. But the cool thing is, one of the rollie pollies was in mid-molt, so half of his body had a new exo, and the other half still had the old exo attached. Now they seem to have mysteriously disappeared into the Eco-Earth...

I thought mine were all gone but I found a bunch in my 15 gallon the other day. I never see them in my other tank. Sadly, I released my rollie polly colony when I moved back to college a week ago. Hopefully, when I graduate in a year I'll be able to reestablish the colony.

Sorry to revive an older thread, but hey, this is a good thread.

Anyways, if anyone is having still having trouble finding the things, I just had great success looking in the cracks of moss covered boulders (found about 10 in an half hour).

OMG, I thought all my rollies were eaten in my 40B... but last night I was looking in the tank and saw this thing out of the corner of my eye. My first thought was "Oh, great... bugs, I'll have to do a deep clean" :roll: I took a closer look and it was one of my rollies!!!! They've managed to survive since June!!

I've been slowly clearing out my 26 as I move the crew from that tank to the new one, and I've seen two babies, and one adult. If there are babies, they must be doing well, but darn if I ever see the dang things!

They do best on coconut fibre substrate or a mix of coconut fibre and sand. I don't know how well they would do on sand alone, I would recommend giving them some leaf litter or moss to hide in and to feed on.

They are scavengers and will not hunt anything living, so they won't help with book lice. But book lice do just about the same thing as rolypolies in keeping the tank clean.

Sorry about reviving a old thread but this is a good thread.

I have around 250 Rollie's by now I bet....There breeding like mad.

I've seen several crabs eating them and stuff.....Kinda cool. They've done wonders to the tank. I don't I'll ever have to do a Deep Clean ever again!
