Temperature and Humidity

Post by Guest » Sat May 16, 2009 6:02 pm

As it is going into winter down here I have had to think about warming up my tank. First I tried an UTH, but this did nothing to boost up the temp

So back to the pet store I went and came home with a moonlight 75w globe. This has been excellent in raising the temp but now the humidity is really poor.

I have a glass tank with a glass lid, play sand and a moss pit. Also have two separate bowls for salt and fresh water. Misting works, but only for a short time. Have moistened the moss and added another dish with a sponge but nothing seems to work...........can someone please help!!!!!

Maybe switch to Eco Earth or a mix. This seems to hold moisture better than straight sand so it might help.

Thanks! :D

Was considering changing over to EE but I have one crab that is buried at the moment and I don't want to disturb him. Should I use part sand part EE or all EE :?:

I have made the salt water bowl bigger and put the bowl with the sponge under the moonlight globe. This seems to be working......woke up this morning at the temp was 30C and humidity was 70%.

Thank god I only have to worry about this in winter time

I'd go with part EE put in wherever the buried one isn't, you can always go all EE later when there's no buried crabs. You could always just go half and half now, and decide later if you want a full tank of EE.
