Fogger

Post by NaRnAR » Wed Oct 07, 2009 1:09 pm

I finally found my old fogger that went in their old waterfall and it shorted out and died :( But I found this one online and got it! Looks far more convienient than the old submersible one that spits water and floods the 'tat.

We shall see!!

Alrighty, I got the fogger and have it all set up! Seems to be working well so far, the humidity has raised about 5% (from 75%-80%) in a very short period of time. I have a 60 gallon tank. Eventho the mist is cold, it doesnt seem to be affecting the over all tank temperature.

My strawberry, Mandarin, was the first to greet the fog and eventually sat and washed her face while in the fog.

here are some pics of the fogger, tank, and Mandarin:

There is an "add-on" to the fogger that is a humidity gage that will turn the fogger on and off based on the humidity in the tank...I might have to get that...could be fun!

it is very halloween!!

The crabs seem to like it so far. I turn it on and they either sit under the fog stream or are out running around more. So far I give it a 10 out of 10. :)

The only bad thing is that none of the pet stores around here seem to carry the humidity gage it communicates with...So I think this is an online toy...no worries!

You know after years of watching the gages die, get attacked by the crabs, or just dont work from the beginning I have one but dont seem to check it much. I actually have 3. One low , one high that the crabs like to knock off and one on the side med. level. All of them seem to be a degree or so different but steady the closer to the moss pit or pool is always higher in humidity. I think you get to know from the feel and look of the tanks. Also you can tell if there is humidity build up on the glass. Ive never had any problems with mold. My vet said the gages are for beginners and i didnt like him saying that but years later i understand where he is coming from. Temp however is much harder to tell. I have raynauds disease with that i dont have a good body thermometer so I am always looking at the thermostat. I dont really need a foger but i think the crabs would enjoy it. I think its a great idea for a iso tank too. Someone told me they got a foger from spencers in the mall and it only uses botttled water. It was 19.99 its a Halloween item. I wonder how that would work? Maybe there is a way to hook it up to work. I heard some other stores have them for the holiday too?

I dont really have much of a humidity issue, it sometimes dips when the temps in the apartment change, and usually on the side without the pools/air stones. Its more for fun at the moment, but they seem to enjoy it...I usually turn it on in the morning for a bit before I go to work...a little morning fog. ;)

I dont usually look at the gages, I use them primarily for the initial set up of the tank, making sure the tank is stable. I know that if its 74 or below in the apartment the heat lamps will not raise the tank to more than 80 degrees. And by the looks of the substrate I can tell if the tank is humid enough or not. And if the air stones are running the tank is perfect humidity wise. Condensation on the tank walls just means that yes its humid but also that the tank is warmer than the room its in by a great deal...kind of like putting a glass lid over a hot casserole to keep it warm on the counter, you get that condensation on the lid.

Im sure you can find foggers galore out there right now, this one also runs on bottled water, better yet distilled water, only. Otherwise there can be too much mineral buildup on the fogger. The reason I spent money and got one already outfitted was because sometimes getting them to work and outfitting them for the tank can be a hassle and end up costing more money. The foggers can also become rather warm, so if you do get one from Spencers or other store becareful the water doesnt get too warm for the crabbies if the fogger is in the tank. :)

good thinking this one is supposed to be cool mist. I think it would be cool to set up on top so it falls over the ball thing it comes with and into the tank. I got a rescue today that i bet could use some fog. He was in Pet smart and the whole tank was so dry. He was the only one and he is quite large. he is in a hideous penguin shell. No water or gages were in the tank. I just couldnt leave him behind, he was waving his little foot at me. The guy said , "looks like he is going to die but dont worrie if he does bring him back to get your money back" how heartless

Keith, I dont hear it at all...in fact I forgot it was on the other night...not that the crabs complained! They got a nice foggy tank for about 2 hours. They love to sit under the stream and come out soaking wet. Good times, I suppose, if youre a crab!

Ahhh, nothing like lounging under the foggy mist, snacking on a pincer full of dried prawn watching the gals change shells on the beach . . . .

so funny Keith a boy crabs point of view. I love it. BTW ebay has both foggers very cheep. The one I got can be placed in the fresh water pool or on top in a dish of water. The pool thing was a big hit. Everyone was into the pool.. I checked they all left there shells on!

That is the one I use to have Sue, just be careful that the crabs dont munch on the power cord. Mine use to climb the cord and eventually chewed a hole in the plastic around the wires. Keep an eye out!
