That's the one. The women in the e-mail said they are all resin but mine is totally painted and the item number is on the bottom so it really doesn't make sense. :?

I just wasn't happy with the customer service, they came off with an attitude. I've had much better service when contacting other companies.

I am going to return it, don't know what I'll do with the new one but oh well. I'm going to try the diy bowls. Just have to get the stuff!

so they wont refund? just give you a new one? I think it might be cheep resin covered with a more expensive colored resin in a dip like method. Maybe it isnt paint but the outer coat will disconnect with to much heat like a boil. If you have to take a new one i would still use it but do not boil it. Use vinegar and a brush to wash it and give it a good rinse. Not everything has to be boiled. I hear that some people actually keep a bit of the dirty water from pools to add to the new water for beneficial bacteria. In that case maybe just what will be left after washing it will be beneficial.

Not sure what materials are safe but I started using cat food bowl double sided. Anyone please let know if it is not safe for this. I clean it out everyday. I can tell you Zoo-Med has the BET customer service EVER!!!! I had a problem with and UTH and I shipped it them and they replaced plus shipped it to me free of charge! I stick with that brand due to customer service. I also buy from Petsmart due to their great customer service. I had a temp gauge go bad after 4 weeks....told them about it and they TOLD me to bring it in. No receipt got a credit and bought from them again. Please everyone let me know if the cat bowl is harmful! This post made me think about the material!

suebee- nope no offer of a refund and even though I said I did not have a receipt they still asked for it or a copy of it with my return. I never boiled it the only thing I can think of is that maybe some salt water got in it because the bowls are side by side? It's strange though for a product that is supposed to be all resin that the coating (that is not supposed to be there) would start to bubble and crack. and I never boiled it just washed it in hot water. maybe I should tell them I don't want a replacement because I have no use for another defective bowl.

i would call again and ask for a manager, tell them you will not use a faulty bowl in your tank and do not need this one replaced with yet another faulty bowl. Send a email too. Where did you buy it from. I would contact them too. Ask for a manager, if the person on the phone is not tell them you understand that they can not refund or help you so pass you on to a person that can. I would fight this.

It would also help if you tell them that the paint chips are toxic to your animal. If the product is going to have detrimental affects on an animal, I would believe they would offer you an exchange or store credit at least. Also, state that you specifically bought these bowls believing that they were paint chip free and would not harm your hermit crabs. They should see your side and come around.
