This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

I agree with what everyone else has said.

I also think that if possible (i.e. all crabs are up), it's good to mix the substrate every month or two.

Some great sggestions people thank you :) I'll have to keep tryng things out till I figure it does the 5:1 ratio look like a mix I like having the clean soil and sand. Do crabs benefit from a wind source?

I've always wondered if rIgging up a computer case fan would be enjoyable

yeah I figured just turning the soil periodically should be beneficial
gardens get the same mold in bc Canada where I used to live lots of rain there

Eco-earth by itself doesn't really grow mold easily. I always expanded it with fresh water and never had mold growth on it.

Mold growth comes from other organic matter in the crabitat. Either food or plant material, or wood-based decorations.

The best way to hinder mold growth is to have overhead lighting and air circulation. 100w of moonglos provide sufficient energy directed at the substrate surface to prevent most mold growth, and air circulation (like from tropicair humidifiers, or case fans) prevents the air from settling and becoming stagnant over the substrate.

Given the present of mold-inducing organic matter, like old food or wooden decorations, the mold growth will accelerate with higher humidity, so anything that keeps the humidity very high, like very moist substrate or lack of air circulation.
