Crabby Jello

Post by Kilimanjaro » Mon Jul 19, 2010 10:33 pm

Tonight, I'm going to try to make a crab-safe Jello in order to feed it to them tomorrow.

I bought some plain gelatin, which is just a protein, so it is safe for the crabs. I'm going to use hibiscus tea instead of water and make a hibiscus jello, sweetened with a bit of honey. :)

I can't wait to see how it turns out! If it's successful and well-taken by the crabs, it'll be a new product for my food store.

It actually sounds like it would make a very elegant dessert for us people types as well :)

Sounds good for the crabs

Would you let it warm to room temperature or serve it cold?

I think letting it warm to room temperature would be best, although I hope it won't melt at all. :dontknow:

I just realized I don't have any more raw honey on hand! :x I am going to sweeten it with a little organic maple syrup and raw cane sugar instead. Just a tad! :P

And, I bought organic chamomile tea today so I'm going to do a hibiscus-chamomile infusion for the crabby jello. Sounds yummy! :D

I once made some veggie jellO! i mixed plain gelatin with some chopped veggies and mixed with water. the crabs really enjoyed it! they would stop by and grab a chunk then run and eat it in a corner so no one could disturb them! Tell us how it works out! :D

I woke up this morning to my hibiscus jello all set and ready to serve. I tried a small chunk myself... it had a very light hibiscus flavor, but it wasn't sweet at all.

This is good for the crabs, as I'm sure they'll still love it, but if I were to eat it, I'd need a little more sugar. :D

I'm going to give it to the crabs, and depending on how well they receive it, I may make different jello mixes and offer them at my store! :D

I just caught Takéo, one of my smaller Ruggies, eating the crabby jello. :D

It does start to get a little melty after being in the 'tat. :dontknow: It's still partially gelatin though.

Hmmmm.

After all this talk of making crab jello, I am going to have a whack at it. Would Knox brand plain gelatin be okay? Its what I bought at the store and the only unflavored kind available there.
