Surface molt

Post by Karbon » Mon Apr 25, 2011 12:24 pm

Last week one of my bigger crabs was acting weird shutting down if you will he was wide open, looked like he was sick.

So I dug him a hole away from the populous and the next day he surface molted. I put a pop bottle tube around him to isolate him
And he did his thing and then few days later wanted out so he was let out.
He climbed out of his shell and went for a swim in my big pool for an hour climes out and hung over the side, and drank but stayed shelless.

He was removed from the tank and put in a safe tank with shells and anything I could muster to create a temporary tank.
He swapped shells there a few times and then seemed to just be out and eating so I figured today I'd put him back with the others.

Was I too premature on this one? I know molting can take months.

I think it should be OK since he's so active. I would just keep a close eye on things to be sure. [smilie=luck.gif]
