Uth

I currently have a 55g tank. What would be the appropriate size ultratherm to use for this size tank? Currently temps stay around 72f.

If you are at 72 you don't need too much. On the Ultratherm my theory is always to buy bigger and then use a dimmer to plug it into if needed. That will let you turn the temp down, plus it really helps when it is warmer out and you just need a little extra heat. I would probably get at least the 11"x35", maybe even the 11"x48".

I can tell you what I have so you can assess what you need. When looking at the Ultratherms look at the wattage for each one, more so than the size, to determine what heat you will get. Our house temps go down to 62 at night and during the day when we are at work. It is set at 68 or 69 the rest of the time.

On the 29 I have an 11"x23", and since it has become so much colder I added a 25 watt heat light on top. The tank stay from 79 to 82. I have Straws in there so I need it a little warmer. I do have the heater on a dimmer and turn it down a bit on days when it is warmer outside and in the house.

On the 90 I have a 6"x48" (wish I had gone with 11"x48"!). I also have 2 lights on the top that currently have a 25 watt in one and a 60 watt in the other. When it is warmer I use 15 and 40 in those. On the coldest days that is not quite enough so I have another Ultratherm on one end that is 11"x17". The temp in that tank runs 77 to 81.

Sorry, but I only have experience with the Ultratherms, but given the reviews on this one I would be concerned about the amount of heat that you may be able to get from it.
