He does have both full legs, topped off with pointy little toe nails. I am glad he has those. He props himself up like a tripod with the back leg really wrapping towards the back to balance. I'm glad you posted your KK pic. Mine is set up exactly the same way, but with little medicine cups. This has been a tough thing for my son to watch. Fasty is a fan favorite in our house, but my son is learning a lot about compassion, and hopefully a lot about what amazing animals these little guys are!

I'd be sure to not set expectations too high for your son. Make sure he knows that not all of them who are this damaged can make it, even if we try our best. Not trying to be negative, just a bit realistic.

Fasty continues to get stronger. I haven't seen any gel buds starting to form yet, but I only discovered him very fresh a week ago today. He is exploring his 10 gallon penthouse a little bit. It's amazing how he has come to trust me. Much like everyone else dealing with this problem, he has definitely made a bond. My husband is also coming around and finding me less crazy about giving so much time to one little guy. I do have a problem coming up. We are planning on going away on Wednesday to a campground where we rented a little cabin. It didn't dawn on me til today that I don't know what to do with Fasty. I don't think I could leave him with anyone. I'm leaning towards taking him with us in my bigger KK. He won't have a heater, but will be out of the AC, so I think temp will be ok. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't know if I have another choice.

If it were me I'd take him to be sure he is getting food and water daily. Given his situation, if he got turned over wrong he could be stuck and unable to eat or drink. Since you have gained that bond it may be strong enough that it overshadows the stress of changing environments. Fasty has figured out you mean food and water so I bet he'll be OK. Do you have moss? If so, I'd put a lot of moss in the KK for the drive and put him in that so he doesn't roll around. With minimal legs it will be hard for him to keep himself from rolling on the drive.

Will the cabin have electric? If so, I'd take a small lamp and a reptile night bulb. You can set a lamp, without the shade, near the KK for heat if you need it. Just be sure to take his water and lots of food options. If it were me I'd get a box of snack baggies and start putting small amounts of different ground up dry foods in them to take.

We returned with Fasty today from our 5 day trip into the wilderness. He took it all in stride, and didn't seem to miss a beat. Fasty continues to eat well and enjoys our time out together. It's been two weeks since I found him freshly molted and missing all but two legs. Fasty still doesn't seem to have any gel buds forming. I'm wondering how long that should take. When I found him, he was extremely freshly molted and was still soft. I'm sure the newness of his injury explains it, but I feel like there should be a change by now. He continues to grow in strength, and was able to get around his 10 gallon tonight to reposition himself in some moss. I'm still pulling for this little guy!

Keep up the good work. Give him lots of protein and calcium. Very finely chopped up shrimp was a favorite of Sparky when I was hand feeding, which provides both protein and calcium since I left the shell on.

Glad to hear he's doing well! It can take weeks for the gel buds to form. I wouldn't even start to look for them until about a month in, since he was that freshly molting when you first found him.

I'm so excited that I just have to share. Fasty has gel buds now! After finding him in such sad shape a month ago, I finally feel like we are on the road to recovery, although I know we have a bumpy road ahead. He was freshly molted, as soft as can be, and left with two legs after a terrible attack. He's doing much better getting around his iso 10 gallon tank. When I take him out to eat, he wraps his little legs around my finger. I feel like this guy is saying thank you every day! Does anyone know if E's heal faster than pps or straws? I'm trying to put it into perspective to posts about Sparky and Sunshine. I know mine molt a lot faster. I'm assuming I'm looking at a 7 week or so time frame until he's close to molting.

I don't know about the time frame. But glad he's got those gel limbs and hope he's on his way to recovery now!

Fasty is moving around his tank a little bit more. He was digging a bit yesterday and found himself a cozy spot by the uth. I'm a little concerned because he doesn't seem to be eating now unless I bring him our of the tank. He does eat quite a bit when I bring him out. I think he's doing the same with drinking. I don't know if it's just because he's getting spoiled with a new dinner each night, or if he's really not interested in eating. I'm still feeling positive about his recovery, I just wish it didn't take so long!

Couldn't resist posting some pics of Fasty eating. His resilience amazes me.

This is him working through some shrimp. He uses his leg to scoop, and his mouth parts act like little arms. I don't need grind his food into powder form. I've seen him hold a whole baby shrimp in those mouth parts and work his way through.

You can see just the beginning of gel buds in this pic. He manages to wedge the fox shell's tip on top of the bowl so he can balance with just his shell touching the ground. He does all this and then starts eating. He's really a trooper.
