But it seems like curlz and wolf have both had huge problems with cannibalism. Wolf was doing great until they reached the final stage and began eating each other :(
You can not compare Nats and other species.

All hermit megalopa larvae are cannibalistic, even marine hermits.
"Aussies" (Nat's variabilis) are more cannibalistic than the others.

mine got enough food, but mabye it was not good. or the other megalopa taste better. I do not know. In my successfull breeding project, the eat each other, too. Even they had enough food. Only thing that would help is to seperate them one by one.

A hiding place do not provide them to eat each other. It may delay some megalopa from eatting another, but not completely. And everything in the water gets dirty. A place for bacteria and germs to settle down.

@kuza: my stream is not strong enough to move shells (not the frozen food). They only stagger a little bit.

clean the frozen food with fresh water and after that with saltwater. So it is a little bit cleaner when putting it into the jars.

When I got my betta's tank, it came with a fish food sample from Aqueon that had sinking pellets. I think it was this one if it helps any: http://www.amazon.com/Aqueon-06051-Bett ... betta+food

thanks crabby!

Curlz, how did you heat your transition tank? I don't see a heater in yours?

I'm having trouble setting mine up and the way curlz did it would take me too long to get ready so I'm leaning towards your tank method.

Upps Nat was a little bit faster, sorry. (Thx Nat :) )
But maybe my explanation helps to understand the transition tank.

@kuza: tomorrow I am going on holiday. I am not available for the next 10 days.
Some advices and maybe help can be found in my documentation: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bxr0FH ... aUJ2cmhQQQ

Naalide is my German Forum "colleague". May she read this thread. She knows my projects, and she already have done a larvae breeding experiment, too. So she may be able to help you.

Good luck!! *Fingers still crossed* :)

OMG I meant to say how did you NAT, make your transition tank and heat your water! I know how curls did it from an earlier post in this thread, my mistake!

The way curls did it would take me too long to get ready because I don't have the plexiglass ready and it would take me too long to prepare and silicone it all.

I only have an 18x18x18 exo terra to use. :(

And what temp do I need this transition tank pool, 89 like the zoea tank?

Lol sure, i kept the trans water the same as kreisel ie temp, salinity & bubbler for current. I also kept an eye on my sub temp. Somewhere in my thread is a pic, my uth's (x3) I put on the outside right next to my pools/containers, it kept my water slightly warmer than my kreisel/jars, it was summer here at the time, if it was cooler weather im sure it would have been harder to stabalise the trans tank.

The UTH kept the water warm from outside the tank?? Maybe I could put a small UTH under the tank under my water.

Yes it kept it warm from the outside, they are only small pools, half filled & right against heater

I chose not to put under the pools as my thoughts at the time were "if one makes it and climbs out & digs down right at the edge of the pool he could be baked in the sub" or desiccated really.

Don't forget that water will be the same temperature as the surrounding air. The grow tanks need to be heated otherwise they would be room temperature, but a pool inside of a heated tank will be the same temperature as the air of that tank. (So long as it's not colder under the substrate if the pools are buried.)

I put my pools next to the heaters because this is the hot area of my trans tank, i still have a cool end even though the tank is tiny :)
