This looks so awesome! If I had the time and money I would definitely build something similar. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions Kip if you don;t mind. Do you have all of your species of crabs together in that tank, and how deep do you have the substrate in this new tank?

Thank you! Definitely save up, DIY is great and the crabs will enjoy it!NinjaPurgs wrote:This looks so awesome! If I had the time and money I would definitely build something similar. Don't mind the questions, keep 'em coming!
I do house all species together. I have PP's, E's, Rugs, and an Indo in here, and PP's in the 217gl.
I have 17" of substrate in this tank. Plus the two EE pits which are about 7" deep. I plan on adding two more

Hey Kip, I am planning on making a 448.83 gallon tank. How many crabs do u think I could safely keep in there. It is going to be 6ft tall 5ft long and 2ft deep. There is going to be an insane amount of climbing space and the substrate alone is going to be about 70 gallons worth. And I am going to also have some large deep pools too.
Pyre Shep Nina,GSD Balotelli,30 Purple Pinchers,1 Red Foot Tortoise,1 Russian Tortoise,7 Rabbits,4 Ruggies,3 Indos,3 Strawberries,16 Aussies,1 Reeves Turtle,one 20 gal Mollie Tank,two 5 gal nano freshwater planted tanks with Bettas,one 29 Gal Freshwater Tank,2 Guppy/Mystery Snail breeder tanks

I thought those were airplants. I have always wanted to put mine in my tank but I don't have a big enough one to where it doesn't matter that they don't eat up the humidity. And im scared my crabs will eat them or something lol. But your tat is awesome. How do you clean it? Or do you?

LOL Thanks brittperry89!
As far as the cleaning goes; Yes, I do clean, spot clean. I have hundreds of isopods in there which help keep the substrate clean of poop and food debris. But I do need to do the usual spot cleaning of where the isopods can't reach, like the poop tray (or shell shop, whatever you want to call it), the feeding areas, the moss pits, tree cave, etc.
And since I actually just did some cleaning, I thought i'd share some pics!
Enjoy!

Yes, air plants! The crabs don't really seem to eat them any more, i'm actually quite surprised at how long they've lasted. I really recommend getting a few plants for your tat.ErikRasmussen wrote:I thought those were airplants. You could rent out rooms in your "crabitat" as a hermit crab vacation home dude.

Love how it is set out, even though it is full of awesome stuff, it still looks empty! This is why I need a big tank!
Cute crabbies too!

Making me feel all bad about my small tank, over here. Great job on the tank,ma, you got some real skill and love there. My hubby looked over at my screen when I was looking at a few of your pics and asked if they were paintings. Keep the updates coming.
I started crabbing in July 2011 :)
