Re: False bottom question
Very nice!
Might I ask, how are you heating the tank? I didn't see a UTH and I was curious how it was being heated....and I don't remember reading in the post, or perhaps I just missed it, how big are this containers? Oh, and I saw that hide/ladder thing on Amazon----how did you hang/attach it?

Re: False bottom question
so previously on the 10 gallon I was just using a little mini UTH that i had on the side ofthe tank, but, i haven't decided fully on how i want to heat the new one yet, and temperatures are maintaining. I live in Arizona so its pretty hot by default here. the house is kept at about 81 during the day, and 76 when i'm home. So without really trying it keeps itself decent, today without any heaters added yet, last 24 hours, tank had a low of 79, high of 87. average of about 83 degrees, and about 90-95% humidity.
The containers are 14 cups, so just barely under a gallon, they are 6 inches wide, and 7 inches tall and about 8 inches long. i should of taken a picture before i put the containers in, but the way i stacked them is i put one container on each side for the foundation and then put marbles inside of it, and then another continer inside the one with the marbles. this way it's super easy to take out and clean if needed. and since the marbles are the same size don't have to worry about it tipping or being uneven.
I put the crabs in and watched them get out a few times, they will sit there for over an hour, was kinda freaking me out. but sure enough, they'd come out when they wanted.
here's a close up of it in the tank you can see the marbles on bottom, then another container on the marbles then the rock water etc.
For hanging stuff, I found some really cheap suction cups at the dollar tree. about 2/3 of them work, so if i try one a few times and it doesn't work i just move to the next, and the ones that do work are good. i put one on, and kept pushing on the plastic piece thinking the seal would give and the plastic hook broke before the suction cup came off the glass. (they're not all that awesome though, lol) they have little plastic swivel heads though, pretty cool.

Re: False bottom question
Very nice! And thanks for all the pics, that is great! One last thing, what is the purpose for the marbles in the bottom of the double-container? I plan on doubling my containers as well, but I thought I would put one right in the other....???
Re: False bottom question
I'm guessing... The unwatered marbles act as a spacer, so the 2 containers are pre-separated. Grabbing the filled tub for cleaning becomes easier?
The crabs sitting in the water that long must mean they're comfortable! Great job!

Re: False bottom question
I had containers that fit together too well so once weighed down with water, pebbles, etc they wouldn't come apart easily. This is a great idea to keep them from getting stuck. I'll keep it in mind if I ever have dishes like that again.YYWW wrote:I'm guessing... The unwatered marbles act as a spacer, so the 2 containers are pre-separated. Re: False bottom question
That *is* a great idea! Glad to know it now, ahead of time....bookmarking this page so I don't forget!
Re: False bottom question
yeah the marbles were to make a little space in between the 2 containers so there is no suction, and they can easily be removed, So the first one goes in, then put marbles on the bottom of it, no water, just marbles, and then put the other container in it, so it sits on top of the marbles with no suction from the other container. they literally go in and out, like butter! so perfect.

Re: False bottom question
It can even fuction as a mini false bottom! The marbles make it pretty, too!
