Thank you guys so much, you are keeping me sane. I have torn apart and cleaned my bedroom, study and living room, bathroom and what i can of my kitchen. I have crawled through the crawl space, folded all my laundry and blankets, looked up each curtain, in the lamp shades, in the pillow cases, behind the books in the fish bowl, under and in the couch and dressers, in the tank, in my clothes that are hanging up, under tables, in the trash, recycling, shoe bin, and any other trash cans and open bins on shelves in towels, under everything. All the windows are closed and the door to downstairs is closed. The electrical heater will be on soon and as soon as the sun goes down i am going to put it near the bathroom and turn the shower on. I have syrup and bowls of water and towels near all of their potential hiding spots. When it gets late i am going to lay near all the hiding spots super still and silent and see if i can hear them or find them or something.

At this point they are either

In one of the furnaces at an angle that I cant see them - nothing i can do about that ill have to lour them out tonight
Somewhere in the crawl space - very little access with a lot of dirty nooks and crannies, didn't see any tracks but all i can do is lour them out and hope the dont fall to the first floor or get caught by the rat
Downstairs in my neighbors place - i assume the neighbors cat will find them and then they will tell me
In the walls - nothing i can do about that ill do my best to lour them out tonight
In the storage closet - about to clean that
Eaten by the rat - i am glad you guys think that he wont bother him because i really dont know
Or still in the tank - i took out all substrate and toys, dont see how that can be a possibility

I was worried about my smaller guys escaping i didnt think either galactus or thing 1 could escape.

Is there anything else you guys can think of that i am missing?

Did you go through all of the substrate? I had to sift my 29 gal twice before finding a crab before. Somehow missed him in a clump.

Yep the first time i spent two hours sifting through it systematically. And then today i took it all out and put it all back in. Each time i found my smallest, who is no bigger than my knuckle, i definitely would have run into my two biggest ones.

How big are they including shell, compared to items, like a golfball?

Galactus is a little smaller than a golf ball, and thing 1 is a bit larger, thing 1s next shell would have been just about tennis ball sized.

I have water and tuna fish and syrup out all over the place and im watching a movie on the couch to give them time to come out.

What if you attract the rat?

I set a rat trap in front of his hole. But the disturbance from a rat would be more significant than from a hermit crab. I am more worried about a crab getting into the rat trap.

I have been searching every inch of this apartment all day. I have no idea where they could be. The bait has been out since the sun went down and i have been laying and listening and crawling and searching for hours. Its time for a walk, maybe if the house is quiet for a while they will come out.

The possibilities are just unending. As you look at the next place, they can pop out ay the last place. They could be actively and instictively running from you, just one tiny step ahead of you. There is only so much you can do, and only one place you can be at a time. Don't get too stressed. When the time comes, get some rest, maybe relaxing and seeming indifferent about their presence will draw them out.

Yeah sitting around in my room for 4 hours waiting and listening and searching started to make me panic again so i went to my friends house for a few hours. When i came back three food dishes were totally empty and one was moved like 5 ft. I am pretty sure that was the rat but im not sure. Two of the undisturbed yet empty ones were in the are that i think the crabs are. But yeah im going to set an alarm every hour and then just get up and look at all the spots. I put some huge pots out filled with hot water along with the smaller bowls. I guess there is only so much i can do.

Any news? An alarm every hour is rough! Hope it plays out!
