Hey guys if you're still looking on filter options and info on the nitrogen cycle search youtube for The King of DIY...he is amazing when it comes to anything aquarium related...his youtube page and forum has helped me set up all 4 of my aquariums...the forum is DIY Fish Keepers...I'll try to link both of them shortly :-)

Thank you so much TheLilMommaB! I love watching his tuts but havent seen any of his filtration ones. Will check out those links!
Have you set up any small sized pools? My goal is getting a 2.5 to cycle and do 20% 1xWeekly water changes. A lot of forums say anything under 10gal cant be cycled and needs 50% 1-2xWeekly water changes, which i am sooo not into. CallaLily gave me hope! Now i just want to know what will boost my chances, like using live sand/gravel, live rock, filter media mods, etc.
Please let me know if you have any personal exp concerning tiny tanks! Thanks again!

I think, with fish especially, that it can be a lot harder to cycle and keep cycled. Larger tanks are much more stable. Plus, there really aren't many fish that should be kept in a 10 gallon let alone smaller.
But with them just being for land hermit crab use, it'll be easier to maintain.

I see! So basically more waste + smaller tank = instability. Makes sense. Thank you sooo much! That was the piece of the puzzle i was missing

Will a filter have the same effect on humidity as an airstone or do I need to keep using one for humidity purposes?

It will provide a humidity boost too. If you need more, you can use an air stone along with.

I would rather not use it because it will take up more room in the tank and I have an idea to use for the way to get out of the pool when they want to. I will share it shortly when I finish checking everything and deciding on my actual options. Do you have any pics of what the pool will look like with the filter on it?

I dont plan to use airstones, because i wanted to use a fogger. The filter will look big and clunky, i havent found any useful "low profile" filters.
