Shipping crabs from Nevada to Minnesota

Post by wyntrej » Sat Nov 29, 2014 11:48 pm

I need to find a home for my hermit crabs and I was wondering if it would be okay to ship them overnight with a few heat packs? I'm in Nevada and the person who wants the crabs is in Minnesota.

It is never recommended to ship in cold weather. Even with overnight shipping and heat packs it can be dangerous. You can do whatever you feel is right, but just remember the safety of the crabs, and if you do ship, read the thread about shipping in the FAQs section.

I'm in Nevada. Are you in Northern Nevada or Southern? I'm listed in the Adopter Forum.

There's a lot of uncertainty with winter shipping. Even the professional reptile shippers recommend not shipping in temps below 38 degrees because there is a good chance the heat packs can't raise the temp enough inside the box when it's that low. If we do get a warm spell and you want to take the chance, you may want to get a cold weather shipping kit and use a reptile shiping service so there is a much better chance of the package getting there on time. Something like these guys, who also sell the kits: http://www.shipyourreptiles.com/
