Rearranged Crabitat

Post by aldebaron0626 » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:10 pm

I found one of those "grass" mats like they sell for reptiles at the dollar store and bought a small shelf for $3 elsewhere to create a new second level. Since all my living crabs are up now :-( I decided to rearrange a little. I have plans to put bubblers in the pools but I need to move the pools and rotate the tank but I'm too lazy today, plus I may be getting a different tank for my Es just as soon as I convince my husband that a 40 gallon isn't too big. This would be a good tank for a couple sweet PPs. I went ahead with the rearrange because they needed more climbing area and I had the stuff.

The top of the hut on the second level is about 4" below an opening in the lid. It's where the pump would go. If I put the bubblers in, I'd actually put them in back there because there are two (presumably) screw holes that are just big enough to run tubing through. So the entire setup would rotate 180'degrees if I add the bubblers, the back becoming the front.

I just upgraded to a 40g this year and it isn't to big but my Es love it! I think this tat has a cool style to it, seems like a great tank for second levels.

Where did you find the shelf thing for your second level? Saw another post with a similar one, and they said they got it from Walmart but I can never find it in mine! Love your tank!

At Walmart in the kitchen section near the dish drain racks.

The metal is sealed inside the plastic coating.

How many crabs do you have? I have three in a ten gallon, I'm thinking of getting a bigger tank for the main tank and use the 10 gallon as an ISO tank? Should I? I get really worried for my molting hermies because they don't have An ISO tank, so I'm looking into a bigger tank. How much would a 40g cost?

I currently have 2 Es living in the 28 gal hex. I found a large terrarium on CL that I want to upgrade them to and use this one for my adopted PP. He's currently in ISO.

Rumor has it that Petco is doing their &1/gal sale after Christmas so $40 BUT often people on Craigslist have tanks for less or their asking price includes accessories.

Plastic coating? It looks like paint to me, and also, nothing that rust wouldn't demolish anyway. Crabs will pick at it and expose the metal eventually, right?

Here is a link to a thread on metal here on the HCA that may help calm the fear of metal. viewtopic.php?t=79277
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.
