I'm also thinking about modifying my filter. I will be using 2.5 gal aquariums as pools in my 75gal, both of which shall be filtered. I'm entertaining the idea of modding the filter where the water drops back down, to make a little running stream area over each pool. That way they have an area for sipping freshly filtered water before they "take the plunge" into the deep pools. Alternately, i will build a shelf into the pool itself that they can just wet their toes in, without climbing down into the abyss.....

That sounds like a project! Make sure you post some pics of it i want to see how it turns out!
What do you guys think of this idea? (Sorry for the bad drawing, this is kind of my imagination/building impulses gone wild)
The pool part would be able to be taken out by itself to clean. There would be two backgrounds added onto the pool for the crabs to climb and hangout on. The water would start to flow from the back background, top left hand corner, and flow down to a little pool on the same wall and then down into the big pool. Under that waterfall part i would put a little indent for the crabs to hangout behind the waterfall. The dotted line underneath the pool would be a tunnel that goes around the inside of the pool for the crabs to hangout and hide. I couldnt quite draw this but the whole pool will sit mostly on top of the substrate. On the left hand side there would be climbing space and a background, i might add a shell shop or cave or something. It would essentially replace this part of my tank...
Which is kind of where my pool is now which they dont seem to like to use all the time.
My Es like to not only submerge completely but also wade and just hangout near water. So the pool would go from shallow to deep and have a lot of hangout rocks and what not. At the moment the current pool is hard to get to and hard to wade, but really fun to swim. It also is a height pool not a length one. And in this 40g i have a whole lot of length room compared to my 20g.
What do you guys think? Just a rough draft after research before i actually start anything.

Sounds great! Having a hard time visualizing it though. Must see pics once you start making it! Good luck!

Well I may have an excuse to build a small water dish or small waterfall. I just realized we have foam sitting around, going to look into this

I don't know how high those power-filters can lift water, but I would def. do a small stream/fall if I could. It will probably also keep humidity-levels up.YYWW wrote:I'm also thinking about modifying my filter. I will be using 2.5 gal aquariums as pools in my 75gal, both of which shall be filtered. Thats right! Thats what i figured. But vacuuming that would be a pain it'd be complicated to build, upkeep painful. Maybe not worth all that, unless i can do something removable, like a cage that goes over top. Meh!
You think i can fit a filter on one side and a pump on the other?
