Could i have gotten a bad kit? I ordered API test kits from Amazon..

Idk. Make sure you follow directions exactly for each test. Cycling can take weeks but I would think you'd have at least a little ammonia...

Exactly! I was thinking that too, esp since my PP was in it for 4-6 hours some nights ago. This was the SW. The FW actually had a bit of ammonia, so that one's on its way.
Does SW take longer to get dirty?

I'm not sure. My only experience with cycling saltwater was with the crab pool. I did get it to cycle but I don't remember it taking a lot longer than the fresh. I'd say give it more time unless someone more experienced with sw aquariums comes along with other advice.
