Viola foods?
Viola foods?
I've been told that Viola's love proteins.....yes mine eat those each night, but they are going crazy over dried ground blueberries, blackberries and cranberries. The first thing they go for is the fruit! They just came up from molt, so if they keep this up, I can't wait to see them after their next molt. Does anyone else who has viola's notice any food preference? They have just been up a week, but this has happened almost every night that the fruit is cleaned up first, so will keep an eye on their eating habits to see how they change......2 up out of 4, waiting patiently lol

Re: Viola foods?
Mine may have just needed fruit after their molt....put fresh kiwi in tonight and we will see if it's fruit or not. I just expected them to eat more proteins and so far they haven't touched the scrambled eggs tonight, hardly touched snails last night. Not much on crickets or grasshoppers (yet) So will just keep offering a variety, but my E's are picky, so was trying to get some feed back on others and how their V's eat....thanksRyry wrote:My violas eating is all over the map. You know some good protein foods that my violas seem to like are The surf and turf from the hermit crab patch, as well as the critter kibble- that's from the Colorado company and I'm not sure if the HCP still has any left since they went out of business. But those are winners for all my crabs.

I don't think HCP went out of business. Maybe they're just clearing inventory?

It's the Colorado Company that closed it's door do to a non-compete clause with the owner's new job. The Colorado Critter Company protein mix is all gone.

Haven't offered Surf & Turf yet, but they do go through the Colorado critter kibble pretty good. They didn't like kiwi last night, so trying dried blueberries with them tonight along with blood worms, 10 grain cereal, dried ground carrots, crabby popcorn and another seed mix I have. Will keep an eye on them with the proteins though as that seems to be the least thing they like.Ryry wrote:You know some good protein foods that my violas seem to like are The surf and turf from the hermit crab patch, as well as the critter kibble- that's from the Colorado company and I'm not sure if the HCP still has any left since they went out of business. Thanks all will keep trying different stuff and see how it goes after they settle in more since they are just up from molt.

Re: Viola foods?
Hm, I'll have to see if my violas have any preference for berries! Perhaps I'll have to make up a new mix just for violas? I know my strawberries love strawberries, of course. It'd be pretty silly if they didn't.
Re: Viola foods?
Mine are still going after the fruits more than anything. Protein wise, they choose beans ground more than meats I've put in. We have some fresh spring grass springing up and I cut some and put in all the tats. The V's loved it! I'm still offering a variety of meats all week, but not impressed with what they have eaten in that area.lessthansign3 wrote:Hm, I'll have to see if my violas have any preference for berries!
