Bonnie and Batman had a faceoff over a piece of chicken leg-bone earlier. Batman was dragging the piece away like: "MY MEATY BITS!!!"

The rest of them are just hanging out.
Groot probably needs to molt soon. The two largest haven't been down to molt since I got them.

Chicken bones are hot commodity in my tank too. A while back I caught Bob manhandling a bone away from his beloved lil mama. He must have reallyyyyyyyy wanted that bone! Image

Pinky figured out a way to cling to a tiny space under the lexan, which is under the screen lid. Well she lost her grip and went "CLUNK" onto the cholla ladder, rolled the rest of the way down, and splashed into the pool. I laughed so hard I had tears. I was worried about that hard knock but they must fall off trees from a higher distance in the wild so hopefully she will be fine.

She probably stood up. Straightened her shell and walked away like

"Nobody saw that right?"

Last night, Big Enzo decided that the 29g apparently wasn't big enough for him and that the world outside was calling him. I was getting ready to turn off the lights in the living room and head to bed around 11:30 when I heard a "thunk"-type noise at the crabitat. Lo! and behold, Big Enzo was hanging off the rear edge of the outside of the tank  ! Being a big wimp, he immediately slammed into his shell as soon as I touched him so it was easy getting him back inside.

I found him in the same spot last Friday after they'd just moved into the 29g the day before and figured out that he'd been able to slide open the plastic strip at the back of the glass lid. As I'd fixed that, I couldn't figure out how he got out last night. After about 10 minutes of poking around the lid, I discovered that he's strong enough to push up the back edge of the plastic strip, climb through and let the strip close behind him :o . Several strips of clear shipping tape now anchor the back edge of that plastic strip to the edge of the tank (the strip light securely holds down the front edge) -- let's see the bugger get out now!!!

I feel lucky my crabs aren't escape artists. Now that I just jinxed myself..

Biggie has decided that his favorite activity is to sit and shred the oak branch leading up to the moss pit. Caught him red-handed (well, clawed) the other night and then this morning.

He's pretty fearless so I had the phone right in front of him taking pictures and he was just sitting there like, "What? Are you done bothering me?"

What are your crabs up to?

Got a tiny little addition to my tank tonight from Petsmart. The conditions there weren't great, but the lady helping me was very gentle with the crabs and was expressing how upset she was that the tank was too cold by the fish but corporate made them keep them there. Somehow workers who care make crab buying a much more pleasant experience, even when the tanks aren't perfect. Anyways, here's ET. He's missing some tips and part of his big pincher but was active enough I couldn't get a good picture. Hopefully that's a good sign!

When I first put him in the tank he rubbed his claws against a rock for about 30 mins and picked the sand off and ate it like "OM NOM NOM, THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER. THIS ROCK IS SO SMOOTH."

This will be my last crab as long as everyone pulls through. I'll be watching to see how he gets along with everyone and hopefully no PPS happens!

My crabs (obtained one week ago, tomorrow), Dr. Samuel Crabson and James Crabswell, are currently VERY skittish around humans, but I think that their fear has made them increasingly closer to each other. They are currently inseparable, and their favourite activity is sitting anywhere out in the tank (in the dark, of course) with Dr. Crabson standing directly on top of Crabswell's shell. Literally. Vertical. Totem Crab Poll style. They just sit there, comfortably extended from their shells, just on top of the other. This happens every night for a few hours. I think it's free transportation for Crabson. Crabswell deals.

Sorry the pics aren't so clear, but it looks like Clyde got stuck and is literally hanging on by a pincher waving "MOOOOOM HEEEELP"!!! That tiny gap again between the plexiglass and tank wall. Hanging on by a BP!
