New hermit crabs.

Post by Angela.Shylah » Sun Feb 08, 2015 11:39 pm

I just got my 2 new crabs yesterday both from petsmart. I've never owned crabs before now. i also got 3 shells and put them in the 10 gal with them. George has been very active and running around his tank, and Scrumples immediately dug himself into the substrate ( I am using coconut fiber) and I havent seen him since he came home. Ive caught George digging near Scrumples and I picked him up once, but obviously I cant do this while Im asleep or at school. Should I seperate George into a different tank, or does it seem okay? he doesnt get completely burried in the substrate like Scrumples does. I just dont want one to eat the other or anything

Scrumples is quite a bit bigger than George, as well.
Proud crab mommy of three babies: George, Scrumples, and Sebastian.
RIP Marbles.

Yay congrats on becoming a crab owner!I personally don't think u should separate them, they may become lonely, just let them dig next to each other. My crabs do that too and they also dig holes for each other.

Congrats on the new additions! There's no need to separate them if you have the right amount of substrate (6" minimum). Odds are Scrumples isn't where he originally dug down. They tend to tunnel all over the place and pop up in random places ;)
Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.
