Mice
Re: Mice
So I couldn't resist picking this little wooden rocking horse up to try and entice my girls into sitting on it for pictures. They sat on it so perfectly a few times but they're just too fast! These are the best two pics.
Re: Mice
I have had mice before, so cute. I prefer rats for rodents myself though.

Re: Mice
As far as rodents go, I've only had hamsters and mice. No experience with rats so I can't really say which I would like better. I am very much enjoying my meece though.
Edit: oops, I forgot about the guinea pigs we had years ago.

Re: Mice
Heh I've had rats on and off for....since I was 15, so 14yrs .... dang lol but yeah, they are my favorite rodent. I've had pretty well every rodent except guinea pigs (was supposed to get three a couple months ago but the rescue fell through on my end for transportation sadly and I've almost had them a few times with no luck, so I've given up on it for now) and rats are definitely my favorite. So inquisitive and smart and friendly.
After losing my big boy to cancer and then his two siamese "brothers" to URIs only a few months later (about 2yrs ago now) I had to give my heart a break. Their lifespans are so short

Re: Mice
I'm still very new to mice. I've had the first two of my four only since June. The last time I had mice I was I think around 9 or 10. Long enough ago that it doesn't really count. Hamsters have such short little lives too so I understand the heartbreak. I'm sorry for your losses.
Guinea pigs are adorable but honestly I prefer mice and hamsters.

Re: Mice
Rodents make such awesome pets! I have a guinea pig right now who has a serious attitude - like if you don't bring him his evening carrot on time he will make all kinds of noises. He cracks me up.
My male rats are just lazy fat squishes. They only get excited if there's a chance they're getting a treat. I sometimes think mice would be more entertaining to watch. Every time I'm at the pet store I watch the little bitty mice run around like total spazzes, and the rats are just piled together sleeping.
Anyway, I love the wooden rocking horse! So cute.

Re: Mice
I had one teddy bear hamster when I was around 12 and she was evil lol I had two dwarf hammies when I was like 22 and one only lived about a year (he literally vanished from a completely enclosed cage. No idea what happened to him) and the other lived close to 4yrs before my roommates stupid cat broke into my room. I saved him, but a couple months later he passed. I had gerbils as my first rodent, but found they never calmed down, were always extremely jumpy. Had two chinchillas at one point, but again so jumpy. I also had a ferret when I was in high school. Adorable, but so much like a 2yr old hahaha I eventually gave him to a friend who lost her's (his littermate actually) to cancer. I had a couple mice and a spiny mouse (LOVED him).
I've had a zoo when I still lived at home. Budgies, RES turtle, gecko, water dragon, snake, african clawed frog, hermies, and of course rats. We had a dog and cats too, of course. I stuck with rats out of all of them, though did end up with a gecko again after moving out, and a bearded dragon. Unfortunately, with my work schedule at the time I ended up giving those both to a friend after a year.

Re: Mice
I have mice atm too nothing fancy atm just plain brown ones lol. The momma n babies won't come to me much but the smallest one they always pick on is my baby. She will curl up in my pocket n sleep, let me scratch her chin, n even get away with playing with her tail lol. Her name is Teensy cause she is an adult but very very tiny...nickle size. Idk why she never grew when all of the others have but it makes her even more special.
My most beloved mouse was my Dalmatian who was a rescue with a sad story. He was a brave lil soul n sadly isn't with me anymore but he sure lived a spoiled life and lived way longer than he should have. He had no tail, no arms, n no legs but that never stopped his enormous heart for everyone around him. I miss that lil guy and his 3 girlfriends. Lol yes he was so spoiled that he had 3 girlfriends that took wonderful care of him lol n even put up with him when he got fresh with them lol. Fluffy was him most n only main love who took over being his nurse and feeder when I was away. Man was I grateful for her when I couldn't be there for him. She took over shelling his sunflower seeds and feeding him, it was so sweet. I even bought soft fabric and covered his house so that his skin would never touch the rough wood, I was affraid of cuts, even installed ramps for him, bought a special cage, and a solid wheel to keep him fit.
He is the Dalmatian with the cute lil face:
You can kinda see his lil nubbers in the bedding there. He only had just below the shoulders so there wasn't much there for him to walk on but with a lot of work and healing he did it.
there you can see that for back legs he lost all the leg but a lil under the hips.
This is Fluffy his one true love n best nurse:
This lucky lil girl was their adopted baby. He couldn't have babies no matter how hard he tried lol n man was he determined to try . Her mom just wouldn't accept her no matter what so I fed her and they did the rest.
His other 2 girlfriends came later after poor fluffy died. She was an old lady and even with all of his problems he out lived her . I had him for 5 years lol the vet was amazed that he live at all let along for that long. You are very missed lil buddy!

Mom to: 2 Kids,4 PP's, Cats, 1 Dogs, and whatever else gets put on my doorstep. (Box on doorstep. Hubby says,"Did you order anything?" I say "no". He says, "go get it, I don't want to know." Even tho he always ends up loving it or at least accepting it lol.)
Re: Mice
Awww . Their noises are the best! Mine always got so excited over veggie time. And the popcorning around. They really are adorable! I think the only reason I prefer the others over them as pets is it's easier to keep the hamster/mice mess contained.megmaholm wrote:Rodents make such awesome pets! I do find them quite entertaining to watch. When they're up they are such busy, busy little meecers. Climbing, moving things around, running. I love when they're so happy they're sparking. (sort of their version of guinea pig popcorning)I sometimes think mice would be more entertaining to watch. Every time I'm at the pet store I watch the little bitty mice run around like total spazzes
Asheka, you had quite the zoo! My son had an "evil" hamster. Turned out she was just very territorial and would have likely done better with more space (live and learn). I still refer to her as the Evil Ninja Hamster. She is a lot of the reason I'm so shy of being bitten.
Nia, I can't see the pics but wow 5 years! Was he born that way or was it some kind of horrific accident? I've seen a few other amazing stories about sick or injured mice whose tank mates really step in to take care of their ill "sister". It's amazing. Did you used to breed mice or just take in unwanted mommas and babies?
Re: Mice
It was a sad horrible accident, well that happened to him. It really was a horrible lil kid that did it to him -.- and it wasn't even their pet it was a family members *sigh*. Some ppl I just have no words for .
Yea I bred them as well lol though my first litter was a shock. I was told I had 2 girls....she needed to be fired lmao. My first mice n I was a kid lol I had no idea. They were a very in love pair too. That is how I got my second litter -.-. I took out all the boys and kept them with their daddy, they actually all got along together. I went to school one day n when I came home I couldn't find him anywhere, I was changing the girls and found the slick lil bugger in her hut with her under the bedding hiding lol. It wasn't long that litter 2 came along lol. Never lost a single pinky either cause she always let me help her lol poor thing needed it with 12 mouths to feed. Id babysit 6 while she fed 6 n then we'd switch. If we didn't the fat lil boys would never stop eating lol. It still puzzles me today how he got his lil butt into her pen when there were no holes or areas that he could have gotten in from. I had another pair like that later on a few years later lol. He kept getting out of his tank and mating thru the top of her cage ><. Couldn't understand how they kept having pinkies when I knew there were no boys in there. LOL I got lucky n walked into their room and caught him one day. Turns out he learned how to undo the locks form his side ><. Crafty lil buggers .
