I can't get the temperature up.

Post by Stefunkie » Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:37 am

I bought a UTH yesterday, but my tank is still at 76 degrees and the humidity is 82. I am really not understanding what everyone is saying about insulating the UTH. I might need some pictures. I am a visual learner ;)

It is pretty simple. :) Yay easy! Step 1 - buy this http://m.homedepot.com/p/Cellofoam-3-4- ... 100320366/. Step 2 - cut one piece to fit the entire side of the tank that the uth is on. Step 3 - tape it on. I used heavy duty gorilla tape. That's it!

Is there a fire risk with that? I am away from home 11 hours a day.

Nope, no fire risk that I know of. UTHs generally are much more safe than heat bulbs. I personally put a sheet of foil between the UTH and the styrofoam, but I'm not sure it was necessary or helps any more with heating.

Be sure to check your particular brand's instructions first. Some brands of UTH do not recommend insulating them at all.

Good to know. Oklahoma weather is so crazy. Today it was highs in the 70's so my tank stayed at 80f and the humidity was 85. Tomorrow the high in OK is in the 80's and then Friday it calls for snow. Seriously.
