Sorry! I over-make-sure stuff all the time.. Better safe than sorry?!?
I actually wanted to double stack KK pools, planning to lift the pools for cleaning. Then i read (i think wodesorel, its all coming back to me now) the dangers. I eventually bought 2x 2.5 gal aquariums, and DANG they were steep! The $1/gallon sales don't apply to 1-5 gal tanks
What kinda filter are you using?

Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
As long as you don't move them when full (or ever...) and they're evenly supported they should be okay. I had several of the medium and larges crack around the bottom corner feet, I think from the weight of water. (I have a soft spot for sick bettas, so I use KKs for quarantine until they either recover or die so I don't infect the rest of my tanks.) I think if the KKs have support along the entire bottom they would be much more secure. With acrylic aquariums they need supported all the way across the bottom or they give way, not around the rims like with glass tanks. Lost two of those fancy 5 gallon plastic bowfronts because I used the fancy base that came with them and they cracked right down the middle on the bottom. Found out later that they really should have been sat directly on the countertop without the base... Plastic containers and me don't mix, and I have a stack of no-longer-water-proof ones.
And oh my gosh are 2.5 gallons ridiculous. They cost more than a regular priced 10 gallon! So do the 5.5 gallons.

YYWW well i was going to use sponge filters, unless you guys object. I have them in my guppy grow out tank, convict grow out tank, and my mystery snail breeder/grow out tank and they seem to work fine. I just never had a saltwater tank so idk

Thing is, I use the sponge filter or something that wode recommended. Marineland rite-size filter pad??? It looks like blue air filter material??? I took out the aqueon stuff and replaced it with a thick pad of the blue stuff.. My SW seems to be doing great, all nitrite-y. The FW for whatever reason doesnt seem to be cycling at all. AT ALL. Trace ammonia, no nitrate, no nitrite. I'm kinda puzzeled, but no water change is still no water change.. So i'm just gonna let it be, for now..

Me?? Don't think so. I've bought that before, but floss is hard to use and falls apart easily. I like the Aquaclear foam blocks. Those things are indestructible. Still using my original one from 10 years ago. The sponge that comes with the sponge filter should be able to hold up to the salt. Salt is always harder to work with since it can corrode things.
If there's trace ammonia, then you're still in the first stage of the cycle. There won't be any nitrite in the water until the ammonia-eating bacteria colonies have built up enough to where they start producing nitrite as waste, and no nitrate until the nitrite-eating bacteria have a food source and start producing their own waste.

O SNAP! You know, i was going for aquaclear foam blocks, and something happened and i ended up with the blue stuff. Sorry for misquoting!
The thing about it isss i change the water almost never. Its been like a month since my last FW change and the ammonia is still trace or nil. I want to dump a jar of fishfood in there and get it cycling, but i go on vacay in a month and dont want to come home to dead crabs after.. I'm really surprised the FW is taking so long to "get dirty" but the SW is nice and live so...maybe they pooped more in SW??

Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
I decided to play it safe and just buy 5.5 gallon glass tanks. 15.99 each. They are a little bit less wide but a lot taller. So now I have to modify the ramps I made and I have to cut off that piece of grape wood from the background since it sit too low and gets in the way of these glass tanks. At least the crabs get another .5 gallon in each pool

They will be happy about it
It was a good idea to be safe. This is a 500gallon tat here! Those KKs will make great ISOs, when needed. So exciting! I hope you do a pro video tour of the finished mansion tat!!

Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
Everything is done! Highest temp is at 92* up top, humidity 71% up top, 81* about 9 inches from sub and humidity is at 85%. I will put the heat emitter on a dimmer hopefully that should lower the temp and raise the humidity. I will post a video later after I put the crabs in (and when I have time).
