Re: New hermit crab with only one leg!
I am so sorry for your loss
Re: New hermit crab with only one leg!
It's alright, it happens unfortunately. But interesting development with the other crab, I picked up the pringle can that I put him under to iso in the tank since I didn't have a separate tank for that. And he's not there! I very lightly dug around the area where the can was but there's sign of him.
I guess this means he managed to dig down and start molting?

Wow! Yes, that would be my guess...that he somehow managed to dig to molt. Don't know how he could do that...wish we had a hidden camera to watch.
4 PPs. Crabbing since Sept. 2014. Batman - Found as a stray (holy crab!) (2 molts). Killer Croc (1 molt). Man-Bat (1 molt). Lex Luthor (1 molt).
RIP Robin (did not survive 1st molt).

Maybe it's because of the new substrate I put in? It's very soft right now since I haven't saturated it in water so it's not nearly as dense as previous layer. Still, I think that's the only possible thing that could have happened. There's no other way out from that pringles can.

So.. It's been a while since I last posted on this. And guess what? He's alive and well! He dug his way up tonight and all his limbs are back, granted they are really small for the time being but he's looking good!

Yay! He could probably use lots of protein, honey and calcium! It always amazes me how some creatures can regenerate limbs.

I didn't put any honey in the food dish but there's lots of protein and calcium in there
