Really? Can't they just behave?!

Post by KellyCrabbieLove » Tue May 26, 2015 12:50 am

I think my crabs either broke another pool or messed up the filter. About 3 inches of water missing out of my fw 2.5 gal pool. I am hoping my filter just got shifted funky. I looked under the false bottom and there is a little water and one corner looks like super wet sand. I really don't want to pull out all the sand in a 125...hopefully just that end will be messed up. I think busted pools are contagious.

I have like 12 down! Looks like I will be setting up my iso for multiple crabs.

I don't have pools, they mess enough with the large water dishes I have that I can't imagine dealing with that.....good luck.

That sucks! :( I think you need to put little bumper pads on your crab's shells or something if it turns out they did crack it. Fingers crossed that it was just the filter being out of place or something.

Just checked and the water level hasn't dropped since about 11pm last night. Going to give it a little while longer. If no leaks things are much easier.

Yep. Glass. :( I just checked again and it was definitely the filter. I still have to deal with the water though. I'm going to get to work on it as soon as my lunch settles.

I have removed a third of the sand carefully and placed it in a big tub. Then slowly sliced my way through the second third of the tank moving it to where the first third started at. I have found 2 freshly molted crabs. One is my buddy Hades. The other I do not recognize. I know how to care for them. I still have that last third to go through. I found 2 dead crabs... one empty shell and my who I believe to be my miracle crab Hera. I hate this. I have now lost 4 to floods. It's great to know how they are doing but the sad news kills me. I haven't found my buddy Dionysus yet and as small as he is I hope he didn't manage to slip by me when I was sifting the sand into to tub. I worked my way towards the pools and will be mixing dry sand in to absorb some of the water. They have a special tub for when I do deep maintenence. They aren't happy.

I am having the "what was I thinking? Am I doing something wrong? I am just killing them..." thoughts right now. I feel guilty. I first I thought Hades was dead when he fell out because in the light the exo looked like a full crab. I was shaking...I asked John (my wonderful husband) to come take him because I couldn't bear to. When I looked I was shocked to see him.

Freshly molted. My buddy is ok. Just needs some TLC.

I'm so sorry about your losses. :( I hope Hades recuperates well in iso, as well as the other molter. Good luck getting through the rest of the tank...and try to keep in mind that you're a wonderful crabby parent. Everyone has bad luck sometimes, it's not your fault. *sends hugs*

Thanks. I found a third...I still have a quarter of the tank to do and have found 32/35. I will finish that up and then take the time to measure and take pics for my log. It needs a good update.

Me too. Thanks. I am hoping that by waiting until my daughter has nursed down perhaps some of the missing 3 will be up.
