security cam monitoring

Post by KellyCrabbieLove » Mon May 25, 2015 12:31 am

When saying I wish my tank was in our room so I could watch them at night my husband told me to pick out a security camera that is wireless so I can watch them from bed. Plus he doesn't want me to not only have a second tank but one that will wake us up at night with random thunk sounds from when they fall off of things. lol I looked and looked. I would have to mount my cam on the ceiling and full wireless is definitely a plus. I found this one and am almost positive this is what I will be buying when I get paid (this and a new light since mine died) . I just wanted to know if anyone had used it and if so what they thought. Thanks!!!!

He has been mentioning it here and there for awhile as a "someday" type purchase. Looks like my excitement about how awesome it would be to watch them from bed made it a "now" purchase. Lol he loves me. :)

Haha that's awesome. I was looking at models while I was at work and a couple coworkers (who I have on Facebook, so have seen my pictures) think it'll be wicked being able to watch them whenever I want heh

I ordered this one: (will be here by Friday! )

Are you guys installing inside or outside the tank? I've been wanting to do this, but haven't really done any research yet. Let me know how they work out!

I've got the new model Foscam 1 megapixel right now and it works ok. But I just bought 4 others, as i've got the next few days off and i'm going to test them all and see which works best also bought a new router just in case. the foscam works pretty good but it lags up a lot, dunno if its my settings or the camera, but i think camera. hopefully i'll have better luck on the others, i'll post my findings.

Oh and i bought a $10 tripod from amazon to put it on, and it just stands in front of the tank.

With the humidity, I'll be setting up outside the tank. I'll be picking it up tomorrow, came way faster than expected, but probably won't get it up and running for a few days yet. The fiance is the technical one, so we'll see.

We have some DLink cameras of some kind that we got to spy on the cats to see which one was, um, being bad on the sofa. I hijacked one the other day to put on the crabs. It's just parked on the table next to them, on a stack of paperbacks. The resolution is not great, so while I can tell them apart, I can't see if they're actually eating anything when they sit in a food dish. The other difficulty is that the viewing angle is not that wide. It has night vision, so unless I put it up against the glass, there's light flares from whatever kind of light it uses to see in the dark. But, when I place it that way, I can't see the entire tank. I imagine there are more appropriate cameras available, which are probably costlier than the ones we have were. I can try to find some specs if anyone in interested in knowing what's not quite sufficient, lol...
