Does it get easier ?
Tiger has been down for 20 days now.. Hermy was up but did go back down about 9 days ago. Seems to be a second molt for both of them. It hasn't seemed to have gotten any easier . I'm eager to see my crabbies back up. Im thinking since tiger has been down longer he will probably be up first. It's still a bit tempting to see how they are doing . Do any of you still have urges to want to check on your crabs while they are down?

As for me it will never be very easy I still sometimes want to but, just think that if you want to see them with all there limbs you will stay out! (It could be one of the things that causes a lot of crabbers to go crazy, L.O.L. the craziness of crabbing. )

I think it's definitely gotten easier for me. I still worry about them but I'm way less panicky. Of course I have enough crabs that there's at least a few on the surface all the time. I'm sure that helps.

Re: Does it get easier ?
I stopped counting the days down as I got more hermits. I'm not sure if it gets easier with time, but it certainly gets harder to track.
My Goji is disappeared from the tank, which means he's under. I think he's been gone about a month now. THAT worries me. A lot. He's my first. I've been checking the tank multiple times a day to see if he's back in his usual spot yet.

I always have a vague underlying worry about my guys when they're buried, BUT I have enough crabs that someone is always up and they all love to switch shells and confuse me, so it's difficult to keep track of how long a specific crab has been under.

Totally easy with more crabs! As long as at least 1 is up, it's MUCH easier!wodesorel wrote:I stopped counting the days down as I got more hermits. I'm not sure if it gets easier with time, but it certainly gets harder to track.

Re: Does it get easier ?
Both of my crabs are down I guess that's making it harder now.. But I have planned their crabitat to be full of things for them to explore when they emerge. I have plans on a third crab but I'm preparing for that by adding more hiding spots and getting more shells first . I am trying to keep the sizes between crabs a slight difference so that there is no shell fighting . I also like three shells per crab in the crabitat as well and I will typically have them spread out and they get changed out every week or so...

Rather dull when no one is up. My sons first crab came up the other day with fresh new black ends on his legs! Now if the rest of them will just follow....

Re: Does it get easier ?
Sonny molted right next to the glass the last time. I thought that would make it easier, because then I could check on him without disturbing him. Wrong!! I was way more worried, because if I looked at him and he didn't happen to be moving at all, he just looked so dead!

Well, the only crab who has yet to molt is Camo. He looks like he really needs it but I'm guessing he will know when he's ready. I'm also debating really hard on adding a 4th crab. Hermy and tiger hang together and Camo is the loner .

Awesome! I love the big (what I call fat) hermits. Those long molt seem to last a lifetime.
