I was asked to fill out one of the form and I wasn't sure if I post it there or here so I wanted to do both and link the other
Edit: here is the link click
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it?
- Sand between 2-3inches, if a crab buried itself you could not tell where they would be completely covered.
2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read?
- Not currently. I had a thermometer but it came off I really want to get a new one when we are at the store.
3. Is a heat source used in the tank? If so, what?
- I use an incandescent bulb to give off heat into the tank, recently I had to change fixture though...which is why I want a thermometer the previous one kept is warm but not desert hot.
4. What types of water are available (fresh or salt) and how is the water treated (what brands of dechlorinator or salt mix and what ratio is used to mix it)?
- I used the distilled water my dad also uses for the bromeliads for them, never tap. I bought sea salt from the pet store and followed the directions mixing it into a gallon. There are two small fresh water dishes in different locations and one bigger salt soak dish.
5. What kinds of food do you feed and how often is it replaced?
- This Flukers one with some fresh fruits every now and then or veggies but they don't seem to care for the fresh stuff much. I replace it every day to every other day.
6. How long have you had the crab and what species is it, if known?
Boss - 4 or 5 years - purple pincher
Bonnie - little under a year, fall 2014 - Ruggie
Al - little under a year, fall 2014 - Purple pincher
Stell - summer to fall of 2014 - Purple pincher *One that got eaten maybe killed*
Casper - summer to fall of 2014 - Ruggie
7. Has your crab molted, and how long ago did it happen?
Oh gosh all of them have molted at least 1 time sine I got them. Bonnie has molted at least 2 times maybe more.
8. What type of housing are the crabs kept in, what size is it and what kind of lid is on the housing?
Boss - in his own 5.5 after incident before but not reintroduced yet
The others were/are in a 10 gallon tank, screen lid the light/heat source is on.
9. How many crabs are in the tank and about how large are they?
In the ten gallon:
small: Casper, Al
between small and medium: Stell (deceased now)
medium-large: Bonnie + Clyde (before he passed this month)
Boss would be medium but is still isolated since Feb.
10. How many extra shells are usually kept in the tank, if any?
- There are normally at least 5 or 6 depending on how many of each size I have to rotate in, all of the small crabs have changed shells since I got them.
11. Have there been any fumes or chemicals near the crabitat recently?
- None that I can think of besides maybe when they were doing yard work and the window was open last month.
12. How often do you clean the tank and how?
- I clean the tank about every 2 weeks or so, depending on if I have seen anyone dig and how long they have been hidden, something with just clean the hal I know they aren't in. I was the dishes separately in really hot water and sift the had through a sieve to get the poop.
13. Are sponges used in the water dish? If so, how are they cleaned?
- Yes I always have a sponge, I clean them in super hot water to attempt to kill anything that could be harmful.
14. Has anything new been added to your crabitat recently?
- The newest thing would be their new lamp but that is outside the tank otherwise nothing has been that I haven't owned for a long time.
15. Is there any other information you would like to share that might be helpful (anything that is regularly part of your crab care, playtime, bathing, etc.)?
- Not sure I can answer questions.
16. Please describe the emergency situation in detail.
Bonnie has been a peaceful crab since I got her. In February my other crab Boss would bully her but not physically hurt her and stole her shell twice, I removed him and all was well. I cleaned the tank on the 16th and found the ruggie I got her with to be dead and my medium small crab Stell buried near him but alive and crawling. Stell was digging a hole near the water dish earlier. When I got home from the store Stell was out of her shell dead with Bonnie sitting on top of her eating her, the smaller crab Al was poking at Stells old shell. I took out bonnie briefly to try and fix up the tank, put her back in and she charged Al crawling onto of him which in the shock put him on his back. I grabbed her and put her in a wire change within the tank with her own separate water + food for the time being as I have no other tank to put her in and want to make sure she stays warm.
Sorry it's 2:20am if any of it is worded funny.
Problem fixed please delete or close.

I've had crabs for years, and this site inspired me to change things for the little guys and make their home amazing <3
Re: Sudden aggression + possible murder.
Hello!
You've come to the right place. But, I've only been caring for hermit crabs for about a year and a half now so I don't think that I can help you out here but Im sure that one of our Moderators or Administrators can help you out more in this field. For now I can recommend to keep any hermit crabs in the incident isolated. I hope all goes well and that you have a good nights rest!
Happy Crabbing,
Richard

Re: Sudden aggression + possible murder.
Thanks. At the moment she is in a separate carry case until I figure out what to do, if I have to keep her separate I won't have room another tank. I've had hermits for over ten years and this is the first this happen, time for more improving for the little guys.
