Question about heat sources

Post by littletechcrab » Thu Jul 23, 2015 5:57 pm

I have another question about the heat source. With the heat pads, where do you usually apply them, bottom sides? and do you also use a heat lamp or just a flourescent light on top. Any help would be appreciated. Years ago I used to apply them to the bottom but never had 6 inches of substrate. Do you need two heat sources?

:)

You want your UTH applied to the outside back of your tank. Get the biggest one that will fit there. Whether or not you need a second heat source depends on your home/tank.

Here's a thread on lighting: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=92543.

On one tank I have an Ultratherm UTH and a fluorescent bulb for lighting. On the other I have a fluorescent uvb bulb (well I did...it broke yesterday) and a heat lamp with a moonglo bulb. I'm definitely preferring the UTH only set up.

Thank you CallaLily for the info and quick response. I am thinking the UTH is the way for me to go. I am thinking of just a plain flourescent light.
