Should a branch taken from outside be cleaned somehow?

So our tree was cut down because it was cracking under its own weight so we have tons of little branches that would be the perfect size for my 30 gallon tank! It's been in the garage for a while now and I was just wondering if I needed to clean it somehow?? Or if there would be anything harmful to my crabbies living on it? And if it does need to be cleaned how would I go about it? Thanks!

What kind of tree was it? Does your neighborhood spray for mosquitos during the summer or are there any pesticides or fertilizers/chemicals of any kind used in your yardcare maintenance? You can look up your city online and find out about mosquito spraying on your city website usually. If it is pesticide free you can rinse it really well with salt water and bake in the oven at 250°F for a couple of hours to kill any insects or organisms living in it, as long as it is on the Safe List.
