I thought it might be fun if we all posted a pic of what our crabitats currently look like. That way we can all get ideas and/or give and receive tips. Especially us newbies! I welcome any suggestions or concerns anyone has about my 'tat! Here it is (10 gal, 4 crabs):http://s46.photobucket.com/use...bs/100_1200.jpg.html

Nice! I like the hanging greenery. Are those fish aquarium "plants"? How do you have them hanging? And can I ask how you heat it? I'm wanting to up size soon and wondering the best way to heat.

Yup! I dismantled some plastic plants I wasn't using. The soap dishes that I got from Bed Bath and Beyond have little square holes in them and I pushed and pulled until the tops of the leaves were stuck in them. The crabbies like to crawl all over them. I'm not heating it, as my room stays at 75-80 degrees at all times. If I was going to heat it though I would use either a UTH or a light. I do put a blue LED light on it at night though.

Is that a moss pit in yours? I wanted to install one but I heard they have a pretty high care level. Wht are your thoughts?

Amazing tanks! I have some old pics of my tat in my photobucket but will post some new ones soon. I have not found my moss pit to be hard to keep up I just mist it every few days and it needs to be cleaned out sometimes because they poop in there.

Ok cool! What type of moss do you recommend? As I type my medium crabbie is checking out a nice green turbo so I can't go to bed *yawn*

Um sphagnum moss or peat moss I think are ok. I got the kind for terrariums - it's sphagnum. Crabs love to munch on it and hide in it and it can help keep humidity up!

I've not heard of moss pits being high maintenance My moss is the Zoo Med natural Sphagnum, package says no dyes added, from Petco. I already have my 2 PPs buried in it. I thought peat moss was unsafe? Or is that just the fertilizer kind you can buy in garden shops?

All natural peat moss and sphagnum are safe though you don't want the peat moss sold at the home improvement or lawn and garden section of any store as it has extra fertz added which make it unsafe. Some of our members use Beaked Moss which is on our No No list but they get theirs from the Hermitcrab Patch and the owners Tammy and Kirk would not offer something they thought were harmful so their Beaked Moss is safe but not the stuff from your local craft store.Spanish moss is also a No No because it tends to attract chiggers, ticks, fleas and other pests that usually live in it anyway.

Very Nice! I so badly want a big tank! So do you just let your net hang free? I don't have to worry about them getting tangled in the bottom If it's loose? And do I just boil it before using and that's it?

I just let it hang. They are amazingly agile getting around that thing. I would totally get stuck! But they never seem to! I just boiled it. Now I wash it periodically but then rinse like crazy and let it air dry for a few days.
