Im wondering what you guys reccomend. What do you reccomend for 3-4 small crabs, twenty long or twenty tall? How much does the average 20 gallon cost from the pet store? How many small/medium crabs can I have and not have to upgrade for a little bit? What heating do you reccomend for them, bulb or UTH?How many bricks of EE does it take to fill them 4-6 inches?Terrarium or aquarium?Plexiglass, screen with saran wrap, or hood for the lid? Will a large fit in the tank?Sorry for all the questions lately. I hope Im not being annoying or racking the bill up. That would be bad 0_o

You could do the long but you will have to upgrade sooner because of sub depth requirements as they get bigger. I had a 20 gal long with 4 smalls and upgraded to a 55 gal within 6 months! I would say watch craigslist and get something bigger!I guess if you had 3-4 very small in a 20 gal you could probably get by for a few years. But that's a guess!UTH for a tank that small or you will dry out your sub.I'm guessing a brick or two of EE would be enough.Since you're not filling it with water you can use either terrarium or aquarium. I'm not sure if it matters unless you get a terrarium that opens on the front - and then you just have to make sure the sub can be adequate depth.I use plexiglass. You can get it super cheap at Lowe's and it's easy to cut to size.Large will be too big. I don't think you can get enough sub. Large need 8-10"More info:http://www.hermitcrabpatch.com...-Substrate-a/133.htmhttp://landhermitcrabs.com/eve...5101988/m/1201086752

I found a post by JMT about how many per tank - you could have large in a 10g but only two. If you are going to go with a 20 long then I recommend also looking at a 29gallon. It has the same foot print of a 20L but it is taller. I know that a 29 cost about $35 at Meijer. I would shoot around $40 at the petstore. So a 20 may cost around $30? IDK exactly. Can you wait until the next dollar per gallon sale?

Right now I have a 20 long and I have 4 small crabs in it. Right now Petco is doing their $1 per gallon til the end of the month. I have a mixture of sand and EE in the tank that is around 7 inches.I do use a glass canopy lid right now. I do have a screen lid too. I do use an UTH for heat. And for light it's just a day glow bulb in a reptile clamp lamp. I only turn that on when I need to do something at night in the tank.

a 29 gallon has the same footprint as a 20 gallon long, but it's 6 inches higher to allow for deeper substrate (6 inches minimum is advised) and more room for climbing space.
