I apologize for not reading the instructions. I was in a panic about my lack of knowledge. In hindsight starting up a new critter right when I'm also starting my master's degree was probably not a great choice, but I had to leave my goldfish at home and I felt very lonely. I recently bought two PPs (I'm pretty sure because they both have the little pores on their legs) and of course the store recommended the wire cage and painted shells! However, tomorrow I will get some real materials and make them happy because they actually make me really happy. One I think is younger than they other because he is a peachy color and the other is more of a dark red/ maroon almost, but they are about the same size. I am really excited to become a part of this community and (eventually) grow my little crab family. I know I will have a lot of questions in the next month or so while I get them established and comfortable. I hope everyone will put up with my probably dumb and obscure questions.

Welcome! I am glad you found this site. I have definitely found it helpful it setting up my habitat. There is a link listed above for setting up a habitat on a budget that is worth checking out. Also, you asked about raising humidity quickly to give you time until you can get your habitat set up... You could try wrapping a wet towel around your wire cage. That should give them a nice humidity boost until you can buy your terrarium. Just don't wait too long (more then a day) or the towel will start growing bacteria that would not be good for the little guys.Good luck!
yup, it's me.

That was good advice. I did it and then called my mom about the whole thing and she gave me the same advice without knowing I had just gotten the same advice. I had to laugh at my lack of knowledge on this "age old" secret. The crabitat is set up and Tiki and Koko seem very pleased that they can run around. The first thing they did was head over to the heated side of the tank and tunnel into the sub by the sponge.
