Cats Like To Sit On The Tank -- Help!

Does anyone have any ideas how to protect the top of the tank from jumping cats? We have the glass top with that plastic piece at the back. I set one of our heavier cats (one of the ones guaranteed to jump on top of it) and we know it won't be able to withstand a jumping/landing cat. It'll only be about 36-46 inches off the floor, so easy jumping height for them.Any ideas?

Is there any possible way to move the tank to higher, unreachable ground? I have a 14 pound cat, and CANNOT imagine him on top of a glass tank lid without disaster and I know how stubborn kitties are and will get around anything you do to prevent them from being somewhere they shouldnt.... kinda like little kids, things are more appealing when you're not allowed to do them! My 20L is on top of my high boy dresser... with no way for the monster cat to get anywhere near there - I do occasionally lift him up in my arms though so he can see the movement in the tank - he loves his little brothers and sisters, hehee

I do not have the problem of my cat on the tank. He is an outside cat since my DH is allergic to him. Keeping him out of the house used to be the problem, He would just invite himself in if the door was open. So we kept a squirt bottle by the door and every time he came in he got shot with the squirt bottle. He now sits at the door and doesn't dare come in. LOL He sees us pick up the bottle and he runs about 15 feet away.I like the double sided tape trick. YOu could try a wet towel on top too. My cats (in my youth) didn't like wet towels to make their feet wet.

We have the same problem here with one of our cats, he likes to be at the highest point in all the rooms all the time. My Daughters Bearded Dragon is his victim, he was always making her screen lid cave in. He was only trying to see her so we put the top of an old tv tray on top of her tank and now he can sit there and Daizye is still safe. My Sister in law has a huge cat that does the same thing so she uses two 2 by 4's and a piece of wood on top of hers. I hope this helped you.Sandra

I have two cats that like to sit on my largest tank (65). They also like to sunbath. I have noticed that even though they could jump on top of the other tank (with the plastic hood), they do not. I think this is because of the shape of the top. They don't see it as secure. If you place something raised on the edges of the tank, they may not judge the surface secure enough to jump on.

My cats (I have 7) alway sleep on top of the glass lids. I've even seen Scotty up there, and he weighs 17 pounds. The glass strains a little when he's on it, but has never broken or fallen in. Fortunately, he doesn't go up there much. Bitsy and Silka (the only girls) are mostly the ones who sleep up there, Silka is about 8 pounds and Bitsy is maybe 10 pounds. No problems so far.

Hmmm, For the heavy kitty's maybe some bubble wrap!? I also have a cat that weighs 17 lbs, & once she stepped on some that was in the floor & she bolted!!! I don't have a problem with them on top of the tank since they aren't allowed in the room....

The plastic strip in the rear won't be a problem; the weight of the lid is held by the glass, most of the time the plastic part doesn't even touch the tank rim. The plastic strip in the middle of the tank could be a problem. I haven't had any trouble with my current tank(75g), but on my last tank (55g), the plastic strip did break. Granted, that was because I attempted to lift the tank by the strip, but still. Yeah, my kitties hate bubble wrap too. Maybe if you put some of that on top.

Curry.Mmm. Some spicy green thai curry. It's an amazing cat repellent. It's like my cats and the curry are both the north poles of a magnet.I can actually suspend my cat a foot above my hand by holding curry underneath him. It's like an invisible force field.
