Crickets in the tank

Post by Keg » Thu May 02, 2013 5:41 pm

This time of year, crickets somehow get into my home. They prefer being in the crabitat as soon as they can find it.I read they can live a year if they are fed.I'm just saying. Another hazard of hosting a crab.

Does the chirping get annoying?

Crickets in the tank

I guess the sounds of crickets don't bother me at all. I know when something is up in the tank, like bugs and spiders. they crabs will not move. i noticed mine were not moving from the corner caddy and if i put a leaf in it they would eat it fast, and if they were thirsty they would hurry and go get a drink and hurry back, not going anywhere else. so tonight i went looking and sure enough I found a white spider lurking in there! i killed it got there tank cleaned out and waters change and now they are all over the plaace again

Wild crickets in and of themselevs aren't harmful to hermitcrabs but that dosent mean that they haven't come into contact with contaminates that are harmful to our hermitcrabs while outside so in my opinion it would be best to remove the crickets as soon as you see them because you don't know just exactly what they may be tracking into the enclosure.

I haven't heard of hermit crabs being scared of spiders before! I'm interested in that

Crickets in the tank

any bugs or flying things in my tank the crabs will freeze up and stop moving. they have always been that way. only going to water and food if they have to and back to where they before, and sometimes they wouldn't move for days. I would level out the substrate at night to see if they were moving and nothing, no tracks in the morning. so I would go searching and find a bug or something, mold will do it to.

i tend to get moths in my tank....i suppose they are attracted to the light. though i have never seen my crabs react to them. i would have never thought crabs would be afraid of little things like that and not consider it food~
